The Republicans should have a good-sized deck of cards that have been hand counted and fed through each voting machine BEFORE the election. Then the machine should be watched 24/7 up to and including election day. Perhaps some should be subject to rerunning the cards through before the ballots in that machine are counted.

The Democrats could have their own set of cards if they like, but we know who cheats.

It’s done all the time

There are ballots in a pile when you walk in

Not too hard to grab a bunch on your way by

Bridgeport CT. 2010. Xeroxed ballots ended up in the machines. Couldn’t be differentiated because the city ran out of ballots (conveniently) and made xerox copies to use at polls. They looked just like the ones being passed out outside

You’re right. But i wasn’t getting into system security or how to run elections which is a significantly complex topic that it would take numerous paragraphs to outline.

I was commenting on open sourced soft- and firm-ware versus closed source. Closed source means it could do anything and only the owner of the source code would be able to see what. Open sourced means anyone could look at it, and anyone with the proper programming skills could decipher what it does.

Yes, you are right. I was pointing out that just because the source code looks right doesn’t mean that is what is actually running on the machines. There would have to be some public process to assure that the machine was actually loaded with the correct software and that sneaky versions cannot be installed once the machines are in place.

If that paper ballot was processed by a machine that is RCV-enabled, your vote is still not secure.

similar to what is done with weights and measures certification, which is usually performed by county auditors. For example, look at the gas pumps you go to. There is usually a sticker on it that it was certified by the county auditor (at least that is the case here in Ohio.)
