Horror films you can watch with kids. Please add on your suggestions:
Day of the Triffids (1951) Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (1973) Dracula (1931) Horror Hotel (1960) House on Haunted Hill (1959) Nosferatu (1922) The Birds (1963) The Blob (1959) The Canterville Ghost (1944) The Haunting (1963) The House With a Clock in Its Walls (2018) The Others (2001) The Spiral Staircase (1946) The Thing from Another World (1951) The Uninvited (1944) Them! (1954)
The Blob
The original The Fly With Vincent Price
Those are more kid friendly
I think sheltering children from the horror genre, in general, is a good idea. The world is a horrible place. Let them be kids for at least a short time before letting them plumb the depths of the minds in Hollyweird.
?
Ditto! Haven’t watched yet, probably never will. Personally, I avoid “horror” movies, and yeah - that kind of stuff has impact - short and long term on our nervous systems. Kids systems - potential higher impact - longer lasting.
Same with these violent video games & TV shows.
I got rid of TV in ‘66. Haven’t owned one since. Never missed it.
I’m 79.
Halloweentown with Debbie Reynolds.
The Thing from Another World (1051)??
My parents took me to see it when it came out. I was five. Scared the crap out of me. Ten years later I couldn’t bear to watch it and it still gives me the creeps. A very good movie, but not one for kids.
The Haunting is excellent, but likely to inspire bad dreams. The creepy laughter and the ‘faces in the wallpaper are the stuff of nightmares.
π
I rarely watched any of them but what few I did I haven’t watched, for the most part, in 20-plus years. I did notice that what rare nightmares I ever had, disappeared shortly after that. YMMV
Now the only nightmare is usually

(Donβt create a funnel for evil to enter your mind.)
Agreed
Haunted Honeymoon.
Iβm a November 1st guy myself.
Real life is crazy enough without more demons on the loose
The Wizard of Oz scared me when I was kid. Especially the flying monkeys.
BEETLEJUICE!!
I can’t believe nobody came up with that one...OK it does have a couple of wurty dirds...
LOL!!!
I prefer the short clip I call The ghost in Jerry Nadler's Pants. It's about a brown spirit that haunts Nadler's pants when he slinked up next to witch Nanzi at press conference. Nadler was clearly in agony as this spirit was sneaking thru his nether region as Nadler gingerly schuffled off stage.
It strattles the horrer and comedy genre. I can watch it over and over again.
...and we used bon ami. way to go, Luther!
Ata boy Luther!!
I seem to have missed “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes”.
A simple oversight, I’m sure.
The horror in the Oval office (2021)
Kids are grown but I wish they didn’t have to watch that one every day. :D
When I was young I had a high tolerance for scary. All the neighborhood kids would gather after trick or treat and watch the all-night horror movies. Any of the kids that showed weakness would be picked on. So even if something did scare you, you laughed it off. lol
The one movie that did finally creep me out was the first Exorcist movie with Linda Blair’s spinning head.
