The officials determined the Michigan State QB was down because his ankle was on the ground with possession. But his knee did not hit the ground and he was rolled over by the tackle.

I have literally watched hundreds (if not thousands) of replays on whether the ball carrier was down, never until this call was the ankle used as the determination, it was the knee (butt, elbow, head).

This call can now change how being down is determined.

I thought it was a textbook example of a perfect turnover.

"when a runner is contacted by an opponent and touches the ground with any part of his body other than his hands or feet. The ball is dead the instant the runner touches the ground"

Ankle is considered part of the leg.

I graduated from Eastern, so I really don’t care either way. Go Hurons.

Ever since Dez Bryant got screwed out of his catch against GB back in 2015, I feel football has become fixed.

Targeting calls in college football have gone full retard.

I remember it being a knee down as from my very young days as a fan. But that was then. Today, it could be with everyone now taking knees, they had to change the rule.

By far the most entertaining game I’ve watched this year. Lived up to the hype.

Ankles and wrists have always been considered down.

It’s been my understanding that the ankle counts as being down. It’s rare though.

That said, Michigan didn’t help themselves by just giving the ball away on a hand off. The Michigan St. running back did a number on them - if you can’t stop the run game...

I’m in Michigan and support both teams, an edge to Michigan but this was a deserved win for State. Great rivalry.

Controversy will unfortunately be the story of Saturday’s marquee Michigan–Michigan State clash if the Spartans come back and win this afternoon’s game.

19 posts and not one person pointed out that the Spartans indeed did come back to win this game with a very exciting finish.
