(CNN)A Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade could bring abortion bans to as many as half the states in the country already poised to prohibit the procedure. Such a move would also have knock-on effects on the primarily blue states that would maintain access to abortion. A Roe v. Wade reversal -- and the flood of abortion restrictions such a ruling would usher in -- stands to affect the distance women would have to travel to their nearest clinic, according to a new report released this week by the Guttmacher Institute. The institute, which favors abortion rights used data from the US Census Bureau to estimate the number of women of reproductive age living in each Census block and calculated the driving distance to the closest abortion clinic. Illinois, North Carolina and California are among the states that could see the biggest jump in out-of-state abortion patients, as their clinics would be closest for women whose own states are positioned to quickly ban the procedure, according to Guttmacher's analysis.
In states like Louisiana, Texas and Idaho, women would see the distance they'd have to travel to the nearest clinic increase by tenfold or more, if Roe v. Wade was reversed and abortion bans went into effect in the states most likely to implement them.

Well, a guy I know who lives in California has to drive to Nevada for ammo, so what’s the problem?
SCOTUS rarely rules outside the bounds of the case set before them.
***NONSENSE. They ruled that obambamcare was a tax but it obviously started in the senate rather than the house, and they shoulda sent it back for proper ratification. They NEVER ruled on Berg vs. Obama other than to say that NO ONE in America had standing when it came to the NBC issue.
Yeah, really.
My first thought was “Aw, too bad”.
So, travelling hundreds of miles is a problem, but murdering an innocent human being isn’t?
Freakin’ ghouls.
This is CNN shouldn’t it say men and women wanting abortions or at least pregnant people or people with wombs. How transphobic of them to misgender men with wombs.
Oh No!
How inconvenient can murder get?
Or they could move to a more Godless state.
Overturning Roe could also mean women keep their clothes on. It could also mean that they have babies and put them up for adoption
Oh, well. Let the left pay for the transportation costs or let women seeking abortion move to blue states. Problem solved.
I said rarely, not never.
In the Obamacare case the tax status of the individual mandate was an issue in debate. They may have ruled incorrectly, but they did not issue a ruling outside of the bounds of the case.
If/when the Texas abortion challenge comes before them, they could possibly rule that at 6 weeks the fetus is a human life and, therefore, entitled to rights under law. It would be extremely unlikely that they would extend that to life beginning at inception. That would go way beyond scope of the case before them. However, it does not rule out the possibility that a future challenge to a blue state abortion law could include a life-at-inception argument.
Going from 6 months (Roe) to 6 weeks would be a huge step in the right direction.
I do believe the easy availability of abortion has caused both women and men to take sex for granted. Maybe this will cause them to treat it with the respect and caution it demands.
Rarely? I have seen it on almost all the major decisions they have published in the last 60 years.
Well, Portland Oregon could use the business. The Abortion Tourism trade could the solution those Beavers are looking for.
Really inconvenient for those who abort on a frequent basis. For those who do it once not hat big o a deal. Serial killers should be inconvenienced, at the very least.
Well boo effing hoo.
It’s time we restricted infanticide. Way past time.
They have to have the clinics near every “ethnic” neighborhood in order to continue their founders crusade.
Eugenics. It’s settled Science.
With this court (thank you Trump)I’d say it’s more likely that doctors will be forced to travel to patients homes to perform abortions rather than abortion becoming illegal.
D@mn straight, States should be able to kill babies, steal elections whatever they choose, it their right. </s>
Unfortunately, some on the pro-life side are callously dismissive of fathers’ natural rights to protect their preborn baby daughters and sons between conception and birth, and would rather the babies die than acknowledge fathers as caring parents by default.
Six weeks is six weeks too many.
