Alec Baldwin may want to lie even lower if he’s still in Vermont.
The leader of a pro-gun group in the state where Baldwin is thought to be hiding out has publicly blamed the “Hollywood hypocrite” for his deadly on-set shooting — saying the star “broke every single rule of basic firearm safety that exists.”
Eric Davis, president of Gun Owners of Vermont, penned a scathing op-ed that ran in the Vermont Daily Chronicle on Wednesday — hours before photos emerged of Baldwin hiding out in the Green Mountain State.
He ripped Baldwin for “mismanagement,” “hubris” and not taking “individual accountability” for accidentally shooting dead his cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, 42, on the New Mexico set of his movie “Rust” last Thursday.
“It was AFTER he was given a loaded firearm, from a questionable armorer under HIS supervision, whom he did NOT personally watch load the weapon, that he deliberately pointed a firearm at two people (presumably holding the camera) and pulled the trigger,” Davis wrote.
He then listed four basic safety rules that Baldwin, 63, appeared to have broken — all of which are “the very first thing one learns in an NRA safety class,” he wrote.

“His finger never should have been anywhere near the trigger if there were people in front of that gun. Period,” he said, insisting it applied even if the script called for it.
Alec Baldwin spotted with family in New England — but cops ‘not exactly sure’ where he is “And finally, Alec Baldwin broke rule number four when he failed to identify his target and what was behind it,” he said of the shot that killed Hutchins and also injured “Rust” director Joel Souza.
“If there is a scene which requires filming the firing of a gun from in front of the weapon, the technology exists to do so without placing people in front of the muzzle and while still allowing the actor to aim and fire without putting people at risk,” he wrote.
Davis acknowledged alarming reports of “mistakes made by an inexperienced armorer” — but he also blamed the tragedy on “mismanagement at the top,” with Baldwin “the boss.”
“Alec Baldwin’s hubris directly contributed to the chain of mistakes which ultimately culminated in him shooting a young mother,” he wrote in the local paper.
“And it was on full display afterwards when he immediately and predictably blamed everything but himself,” the gun rights campaigner insisted.
“Yes, the armorer screwed up bad and should also be held accountable for their negligence.

Ok. That’s all I need to hear. He needs to go to jail.~sarc off
A little research on Baldwin shows a life-long pattern of explosive and impulsive behavior, run-ins with police, punch-ups at restaurants and on the street, and vitriolic public arguments with family and colleagues.
It just shows he’s an entitled jerk who never thinks before acting
Low budget film, time is money, it takes time to check the weapon. Add a touch of egotistical arrogance and things start to unravel.
Yes, broke all the rules of gin safety.
When you are an arrogant, insufferable S.O.B., you know rules don’t apply to you.

“how soon can the chopper be here for me?”
“you’ll say I was with you, right?”
“g*dam Cheney set me up!”
Baldwin held and pointed the gun when it fired and killed a woman. There may be some blame to assign elsewhere but ultimate responsibility is on him to check the weapon. It was a single action revolver from the old west era, which means it had to be loaded chamber by chamber from the back of the weapon, and cocked before it would fire.
I don’t know why they don’t make replicas that cannot accept live rounds for use in movies/tv.
>>They included failing to treat the weapon as if it were loaded, aiming at something he “was not willing to destroy” and also putting his finger on the trigger.
I friggin hate this guy, and if he is and his fake hispanic wife dropped dead tomorrow, it would be great for civilization - but he is an actor - and as far as he was concerned it was a prop - how and why should he be expected to know how to handle a gun?

They do:

Baldwin exemplifies the elite rich who have everything done for them. They don’t cook their own food, do the dishes, launder their clothes, vacuum the carpets, clean the sinks, mow the lawns, wash the car, do their taxes, nothing. They shove it all off onto servants, and have temper tantrums when it’s not to their liking.
Carry that over to firearm safety, and . . . . .
The rules of firearm safety notwithstanding, I can’t get over the idea that he would just take someone’s word that the gun didn’t have real bullets in it, and point it at someone and pull the trigger without checking for himself. The stuff nightmares are made of.
Then, I don’t know why they don’t use them.
The best post I saw was stating if the scene called for him to put the gun to his head and pull the trigger, he’d have checked the gun before doing it.
Supposedly there were 3 guns on the table. One that he used which could accept .44 caliber rounds, one that looked the same but was disabled so it couldn’t fire, and one plastic replica.
Proper gun handling and safety aside, I can accept that when filming a movie you have to break one of the rules regarding pointing it at someone you don’t intend to kill (let alone actually firing it). When filming you have to point it - though as this OP notes the people behind the camera don’t necessarily have to stand in the line of fire during that shot. Other scenes may require pointing and firing at other actors. Because these scenes are required to make a film, one should take extra precautions to ensure it is not loaded with live ammo.
In this case though, it appears they were not filming. They were just setting up the shot (camera angle, lighting etc). They could have used the replica or the plastic gun for that. A lot of blame being put on the assistant director for not checking all the chambers in the cylinder and there is some fault there but there appears to have been a series of very poor decisions. Going plinking with a prop gun using live rounds? I wonder if they would let someone take the costumes off the set, or use Alec’s trailer bathroom, or borrow the camera and lights. Rhetorical question of course - they would not. But the guns, they went off into the desert to shoot items that are required for the film. Dangerous, reckless, and potentially ruinous to the entire film. What if the gun was damaged - it was already established in other scenes presumably. Just a whole array of poor decisions here. Very sad a young woman, mother, wife was killed.
He broke THE MOST IMPORTANT rule.
Has anyone else noticed that even the New York Post is not reporting what town in Vermont Alec is in? TMZ would not even report it was Vermont, they only said he was in New England. If this was Don Jr. they would have reported the name of the hotel and room number. After all of Alec’s screw ups, and even his wife and him telling everyone she is from Spain, he could always count on being wealthy as his trump card. Well he might not be that wealthy after he’s drained for lawyer fees, and civil judgements. Not to mention his wife no longer makes any money from endorsements and he himself will find it harder to get work. He will beat jail, but could become a felon.
Doesn’t the latest version say Manchester Center?
(about halfway between Rutland and Bennington)
Just a "tragic accident." That's all it was. He would have been a better man if he had simply said "I regret killing Halyna Hutchins."
