How much does a pack cost these days?
The decline in cigarette smoking has been the no. 1 cause of cancer reduction in the U.S. It’s probably big in the reduction of heart attacks too.
People see what’s coming and want to die quicker. Smoke ‘em if you get ‘em.
Careful selling loosies on Deblasio’s streets.
I’d rather have a nice Cigar instead.....

One would have thought with all the free time rolling your own would have picked up the slack.
Smoking prevents covid.
There could be a couple reasons for reasons for this spike. The most plausible hypothesis, I would think, that smokers were at home more due to work-from-home, unemployment, lockdowns etc., and thus would have thus have more freedom to light up compared to workplaces, public events, restaurants etc. where smoking is restricted.
A more outlandish hypothesis is that smokers are buying into theories about smoking and/or nicotine offering some protection against covid-19 and are thus self-medicating.
In any case, my area (San Francisco Bay Area) has an extremely low rate of tobacco usage. Based on what I smell on public streets, I’d estimate the number of cannabis smokers is 2x or 3x the number of tobacco smokers.
The state of California makes more money of tobacco than the largest tobacco company in the world. So, it’s in their interest to perpetuate it.
Just wait until the Afghans get going
It’s a mystery! Might it have something to do with this?
Flavored E-Cigarette Products
The US Food and Drug Administration blocked the sale of more 55,000 flavored e-cigarette products Thursday, its first ban of e-cigarette products since it began requiring makers to apply for premarket review last September. The FDA issued marketing denial orders for the electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) products, saying they pose a public health threat to youth in the US. Of the more than 55,000 products impacted by the decision, those not yet being sold may not be introduced into the market, and those already on the market must be removed or risk enforcement. Covid was my excuse to start smoking cigars. I never knew what I was missing. So relaxing to enjoy a cigar every now and then. Not every day. Yet
Well I dod read somewhere that smokers are less likely to get covid so maybe something there.
I will say that I smoke, and had covid twice, both times I survived. First bout in December was a rough one. The last round was nothing but a head cold and minor congestion.
Rush always said, “Cigarette smokers deserve a medal for all of the taxes collected”. I knows that cancer got him and he did smoke cigars after quitting cigarettes.
I remember my mother buying unfiltered Chesterfields at the PX for $1.85 per carton — 10 packs, 200 coffin nails @ less than a penny apiece.
It’s well known that in all the psych wards the patients almost all are smokers. Poor coping mechanism for their anxiety.
I wonder if the media pointing out that smokers seem to have a reduced chance of getting Covid is a factor?
