I lived in NYC for 20 years and I never followed any of your rules and I still enjoyed my life then.

When did you live in NYC? I visited during the Giuliani years, and it was good. I rode the subways at 3 a.m. and felt perfectly safe.

Once I was riding from Manhattan to Queens around 3 a.m. on a Sunday morning (after a Saturday night in Manhattan). We stopped at the 23rd Street station. A row of dozens of cops stood on the platform. They all got on the train for a moment, several cops for each car, looked around to see if anything was amiss, then got off to wait for the next train.

Just a random spot check to see if everything was all right.

I also remember riding the train into and out of Manhattan in the 1980s. Then, I didn't feel safe.

I haven't been to NYC in about a decade, but I have family there, and I hear it's gotten really bad under DeBlasio.
