Detectives have recovered loose and boxed ammunition and a 'fanny pack w/ammo' from the set of Rust where Alec Baldwin shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
An inventory of seized items was released by authorities but did not specify the type of ammo nor whether it included live or dummy bullets or blank cartridges.
The items included three revolvers, two boxes of 'ammo,' 'loose ammo and boxes', spent casings as well as 'a fanny pack w/ammo', according to the inventory delivered to Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.
The court records also show how two leather gun belts with holsters, articles of clothing and swabs of what were believed to be blood were found by investigators.
One of the central mysteries about the killing of cinematographer Hutchins remains what kind of projectile was fired from the gun and how it got there.
Investigators hope a forensic analysis of ballistic evidence will shed light on those questions, Juan Rios, spokesman for the Santa Fe Sheriff's Department, said on Monday.
'This is a complicated case,' he said.
Mike Tristano, a veteran professional armorer who works in LA, said the inventory was vague and reveals little about the shooting.
But he told the New York Times it was unusual to have loose ammunition and spent casings on set, adding they would normally be kept in a labeled box.

OK, I get it. I know nothing about how movies are filmed.
But the one thing I don’t get is why live ammo was available on a movie set. Isn’t that just asking for trouble?
They keep fumbling around talking about negligence. You don’t accidently load a bullet into a prop gun.

It sure sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Gross negligence, at best.
I would like to see a real photo of the firearm used, along with the bullet and empty casing.
Some web pages simply show a fancy black powder pre-Civil War revolver that does not take cartridges.
I read somewhere that the crew would put live ammo into the gun and shoot it for fun after hours. Horrible safety violation if true given how the guns were actually used with blanks on set.

Baldwin was not only an actor, he was also a ‘producer’ which puts him at the top of the responsibility chain for having procedures in place & seeing that they are followed. His insurance company won’t be paying out (opinion of various attorneys commenting on the matter) .... & he’s likely to not be able to get insurance on any future projects.

Sounds like the police are as meticulous as the armorer and director.
Hopefully the bullet was recovered from the guys shoulder who was hit after it exited her chest.
Or it tore through his shoulder and landed on the floor, or in a wall.
Who knows? Live rounds were all over that place.

When rehursing drawing a gun, you keep your finger away from the trigger. Remember the rule that you always treat a gun as if it is loaded. You never point a gun in the direction of anyone you do not want to shoot. If Alec Baldwin had followed these two rules, she would be alive today. He did not. It is his fault.
