ANYBODY SEEN IT YET?..........................
Will there be some spicy scenes?
“ANYBODY SEEN IT YET?..........................”
First five minutes.
See what the author did there, Dune fanboys?
I watched it on HBO Max, it’s pretty much as it’s described in this article, I did not read the books so I can’t tell you how it tracked to the written word...it’s obviously setting up for the sequel...
I also concluded it has a more hard edged Star Wars feel to it with the main character similar to Luke Skywalker, the reluctant Jedi who will save the galaxy....
It is visually stunning and interesting, I enjoyed it but if it were not on HBO Max I would not go see it in a theater...
Much better than the early 80s version.
The writer just worming his way into our hearts.....................
Anything would be better than that Sy-Fy Channel miniseries crap they did a few years back........................
Now ya done it! This is weirding me out.
That’s okay, just have some Spiced Coffee and repeat the Litany Against Fear..................................
In the Dune book series, Paul takes over the Universe!...................
Boring! Turned it off after 10 minutes.
You fell asleep?......................
Even though being a Sci-Fi reader and movie watcher since my youth, I stopped half way through when reading Dune back when. The 80’s movie was a cluster. I was going to try this reboot but changed my mind not knowing how long for sequel.
Saw it last night. Better than the first movie back in the day, but yea, they stopped halfway through, with a “maybe” for the second half? WTF!
Granted, it’s was a long movie, a little over 2.5 hours. So to do it right it would have to be at least two movies.
They say the movie cost $165M to make and took in $40M opening weekend domestically. Apparently it’s been playing in Europe for a few weeks and is doing well. But they’re also streaming on HBOMax for a limited time. That may hurt or help.
There was a full movie in the 80s.

And then there was the Syfy version. I actually bought the dvd set but never watched it through to the end.
My wife and I watched it on HBO Max on Saturday. We both liked it. Neither of us had read any of the books, and I had seen the 1984 version once back when it came out. I did not like the 1984 version, and did not expect to like this new one. We were able to follow the story fairly well. The reviewer is correct about the low-key nature of the acting. But much of that acting (particularly by Rebecca Ferguson) is of barely contained fear and trepidation. I thought the movie had a sense of tension throughout, that something terrible and tragic was waiting in the wings.
It was visually impressive with great CGI effects. It was rather loud through my 5.1 sound system, and I felt compelled to turn on subtitles in order to get all the dialogue without blasting the roof off our house. If it truly followed the novel (I can't say as I never read it) it was apparent to both my wife and me that Star Wars stole a lot from the original story. I look forward to Part II. It's a shame they have not started on it yet, but I guess they are not sure where the movie industry is headed now that so many people have been scared away from theaters.
My brother and I just watched the old one on Saturday night...I thought they did a pretty good job back then, considering the state of special effects then as compared to today.
In the new one, Paul Atreides looks too much like a metrosexual soy boy to me. I will watch it at home eventually, and will be happy if I am wrong.
