Jay Black, frontman for the Sixties pop-rock hitmakers Jay and the Americans, has died at the age of 82. Black’s family confirmed that the singer died Friday night from complications from pneumonia. In recent years, Black also suffered from dementia.

He had such a great voice. May he rest in peace.
We were young then, with our whole lives ahead of us, so much so, that we thought we could almost live forever.
And then things like this kept happening to remind us that we are not young anymore, and we won’t.

An early version of his touring band included a couple of unknowns - Donald Fagen & Walter Becker - who left and started their own 2-man group assisted by studio musicians.
IIRC, they had a couple of hits...
I never knew Jay sang Gypsy Woman. Only heard Brian Hyland’s version. Thank you for the share. We had seen him about 12 years ago in concert here in Florida. Amazing talent. Very sad to be losing our great music.
