Coronavirus Panic Porn

Posted on 10/23/2021 6:56:49 AM PDT by JoeVortex

It is Saturday morning and light rain is falling. I am sitting at my computer drinking coffee.

My desk is set up by the bay windows at the front of the apartment because that is the best natural light.

My apartment faces another building across the parking lot. There is a man standing under the overhang smoking a cigarette.

There is nobody else around. He finishes his cigarette and puts it out. He puts on a face mask, picks up his plastic garbage bag, and walks out into the rain to dispose of it in the dumpster. He is not wearing a hat.

I pray to God this idiot is not registered to vote.

Suspense flick opening. Probably a Jimmy Stewart movie. Right?

I hate the things, don’t believe they do squat, and when I have to wear one general where what is called a “mingle mask” which is the mask equivalent of a stringed bikini—it covers enough to keep one out of jail through technical compliance.

That said, keeping track of the d@mn thing is a pain in the back sides, and if you are out and about and going to be needing it on and off it may be more convenient to wear it than to spend a bunch of time looking for it. I’m the sort of person who not only misplaces glasses, but will from time to time flip my reading glasses up to the top of my head only to discover that there is already another pair there.

Yesterday I was looking for my mingle mask only to discover that I was wearing it (they are that unobtrusive and as the only contact points are the ears and a portion of my chin covered by a beard I can sometimes forget about it).

Sounds like the opening lines of a book about a zombie apocalypse.

I thought people driving alone in their cars wearing a mask were bad. Then I saw a man fishing in a skiff, by himself 100 yards from shore. Masked up.

What do you say to people like that?

This entire situation has made me wonder about the intelligence and gullibility of my fellow citizens some of whom I used to respect.

Sounds a bit like the Italo Calvino novel “If On A Winter’s Night A Traveler” in which he spends the entire novel writing an introduction that never ends.

Watched a similar situation recently at Chimney Rock in NC. A masked couple gets out of their car in the parking lot. Both pull down their masks and light up. They both already look winded. Once finished, they stub out their smokes and head up to the entry plaza for the ascent to the top. There are two ways up to the top of the mountain...either an elevator, or a well-built, sturdy set of stairs (500 steps). I’m guessing they took the elevator.

This is what we are seeing now with the Covid panic.

Humans have been making total clowns of themselves since they crawled out of the caves!

Spent a week at the grand canyon. Yes, idiots were walking around outside with masks on while hiking, alone, with no one else around. I am not kidding.

“ What do you say to people like that?”

You say, “lighten up Karen. “

We see similar things here in Austin. Last weekend, just for a change of pace, we went to a B&B in Llano (small town in central Texas). Not a mask in sight. Not on the people leaving the Friday night football game, not on folks at the Saturday night rodeo, not on servers in the town's two restaurants or the local coffeehouse, not on cashiers at the local grocery store which had no plexiglass barriers at the checkout.

It was literally a breath of fresh air.

Exact same way here in rural North Florida. Biggest thing in town are the Friday night football games. Only a few blacks are wearing masks. Was the same way last football season. Went to my grandson’s baseball college scholarship presentation at the school library; the room was full of students, parents, administrators, teachers and coaches...not a mask.

Welcome to God’s country. Oh yeah, they also pray at the beginning of football games, and the band plays Amazing Grace while everyone stands.
