A deadly shooting on the set of the Alec Baldwin film “Rust” in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, has resulted in a debate among legal minds about the possibility and likelihood of litigation — even as many of the facts of the matter remain shrouded as of the time of this writing.
It remains officially unclear how a prop gun — generally outfitted with blanks — was discharged by Baldwin on a movie set. The gunshot managed to kill cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, and injure director Joel Souza, 48. The accident happened at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a stereotypical western film set used frequently by production crews on the southern outskirts of Santa Fe.

However, the New York Post, citing Indie Wire, said that a union which represented prop masters learned that a “live round” was fired. The union said its members were not on set and that local “New Mexico crew members” were, according to the reports.

It fits the yet unverified report.
There was nothing defective about the weapon as it fired a projectile. It functioned as designed and the user is the last link in safety protocols. The person launching a projectile, knowingly or unknowingly, bears the final responsibility for where it strikes. That said, none of that will apply to Baldwin because of his politics.

Movie Plot time:
Check this out - a famous actor is using non-union crew to shoot a movie, right? The famous actor is famous for being not only an actor, but also a pompous ass, so folks already don’t like him. Now, we throw in a pissed off pro-union guy who is going to teach this actor “a lesson” by switching out a blank for a live round. Actor gets his hands on the gun and instead of shooting another actor, he winds up shooting the cinematographer and the director, killing the cinematographer, with ONE shot. Actor then goes nuts and heads into a deep depression where he winds up almost killing himself by jumping off a very tall and rolling doughnut, but is saved at the last minute by the President of the NRA!!! The actor then gets properly trained to use firearms, becomes a huge second amendment guy and then leads a militia into the start of CW2 where he and his crew single handedly save America from the commies!!!!

With all due respect, I disagree. An adult under any circumstance not related to the actual production of the film has no business pointing a weapon at anyone and pulling the trigger, especially not knowing the status of the weapon. A basic gun safety class will teach this first.
She was an aware industry insider and she chose to work with Baldwin, she was not forced.

Hutchins and her film crew had a dispute about safety on the set..
with a walk out imminent.
No cinematagrapher on the set then nothing productive happens as the expense taxi meter keeps rolling, ka-ching,ka-ching...

So what a tragic accident that just happened to kill the cinematographer with a single shot, the immediate thorn in the perpetually ill tempered Alec’s side.

Accidently well aimed kill shot...yeah right.
Close analogy but there are things a driver can check such as low pressure in the brake pedal, grinding when pressing the brakes, play in the steering wheel, etc. The same is true of someone wielding a firearm on a movie set:
-Is this a real gun or a prop? How do I know?
-Did I load it? What did I load it with?
-If I didn't load it, did I witness what was loaded into it?
-Is my first trigger pull going going to be into the sand trap, just in case?
-What am I aiming at?
-Are those downrange from it protected?
-Is this the same gun the members of the crew were using for target shooting yesterday?
Alec Baldwin was one of the producers who needed to ask the question, "how important is it for this scene to risk a "facing-the-camera shot"? If we can't fake it (in Hollywood no less), do we have a bulletproof partition protecting the crew? Do we have two mirrors with sandbags behind them?
Long ago airshows were banned from "energy toward the crowd" with the intent of minimizing crashes that would injure or kill spectators.

No, as the lawyers in the article explained, not in this case.
The prop-master, the person tasked with preparing the gun and ensuring it was properly loaded (with blanks) is the LEGALLY responsible person.
That’s the way the system works in film production. The prop-master prepares the weapon & guarantees it is safe. The actor accepts the word of the prop-master that the gun is safe. That’s the system.
However, the scenes where the Leftists turn on one one another will be useful for all the factual documentaries about the fall of Great Empires, Cultures and the Fall of Civilization it's self.

Movies aren’t like plays. The narrative is created in the editing of various shots. It’s easy to envision the scene calling for a shot of the character in the act of shooting.
