An Amish couple was killed and their eight children were injured after their horse-drawn buggy was hit by a pick-up truck over the weekend....

...KIRO 7 reported that 38-year-old Barbie Esh was pronounced dead at the scene and that her husband, 39-year-old John Esh, died at VCU Medical Center on Monday night. The outlet added that the horse pulling the buggy was euthanized because of the injuries it sustained....

...[Stoltzfus ]also shared in an update on Wednesday that all eight children had been released from the hospital. "I don't have a list of exact injuries but I know there are broken legs, pelvis and multiple other things," he said.

PEOPLE Magazine identified the driver of the Toyota Tundra as 60-year-old Mickel Bates. A spokesperson for the Virginia State Police Department told the publication that he initially fled the scene but later ....

For Heaven sake. This is the 21st. century. Why should a majority of the population who choose to live in it have to accommodate a people who, for the most part live in the 17th?

23 posts before a FReeper blamed the victims.

Well I guess that’s progress. Normally we get a post like yours in the first ten.

Imagine if this car had run into a slow-moving tractor moving between farms. Would you be blaming the tractor driver?

That's kind of a stupid question. A tractor and a car are two modern vehicles. A horse and buggy are not and for good reason are not allowed on nearly every road in the country. And who do you mean ''we''? Who elected you moderator?

Why?

Because it’s the law in Virginia.

Been reading PETA propaganda again?

I have a friend who’s formerly Amish. None of the propaganda stuff happens to the horses?

In 2016 the Amish voted for the first time, as a block for Trump. I’ve wondered if their votes put Pennsylvania past the fraud point and secured the KEYstone state for Trump, thereby closing the door on last-minute/post-election fraud in other close states.

No, its not a stupid question.

Sure, the tractor is a *more* modern vehicle than a horse drawn buggy, invented around the same time as the car, but still slow moving and usually fairly well lit, and I saw one that had just been run over many years ago. The tractor driver was just as dead. Or maybe he was more human because he was on a modern vehicle...he was black, not Amish, does that make it different?

It took the left rear wheel off the tractor, flipped it over on top of the driver, killed the driver and demolished the car. So is it any different because it’s a modern vehicle? Both drivers are just as dead...

Both operated by humans.

Both are slow moving vehicles.

Both have the right to be on the road.

Same as I do on my bicycle. Or maybe you think that would be stupid question too, what if it were someone on a bicycle?

The problem I usually have around here is deer on the road after dark and they don’t have lights. That’s why I usually drive about 40mph at night...I counted 23 one night coming home from a gig, just over an hour drive. Fortunately they all stayed on the shoulder. And lived.

The only stupid question is the one you don’t ask.

Because in our country we allow peoples faith to be as it is not what we think it should be. Their lifestyles are what they are.

Exactly......Buggies aren’t the only slow moving vehicles on the roads.....this guy was speeding so obviously had little time to stop for ANY slow vehicle.

I don’t know of any other religious group that uses a horse and buggy to travel. As other FReepers have pointed out here, apparently they must live in “Amish country’’ this happens more than is reported.

As one FReeper pointed out a horse pulling one of these things will sometimes become spooked and bolt out into traffic , buggy and driver in tow and an accident happens, often with tragic results for the horse.

It reminds me of when I was working in NYC in the late ‘70’s and ‘80’s and the ‘’carriage horses’’ that would take tourists around Central Park.

That wasn’t so bad but when the drivers would go up and down Fifth Ave. that’s when there were problems.

I witnessed two accidents involving those things.

Both cases resulted in a tourist and a driver being injured and both horses having to be put down.

We'll never know the amount of fraud that took place in 2020.

No one ever will. And the Democrats are poised to do it again in 2024.

I'm tired of ‘’voting blocs’’. I'm tired of hyphenated Americans and ‘’secular communities’’, I don't care who they are Amish or Baptists or who ever.

When the hell are we just going to be Americans?

Yes I lived there at one time.....it’s well known to watch out for buggies.....more importantly is the Amish have to use all the signs etc. any other slow moving vehicle has to.

I'd be leery to say the least. Out here in NJ it's motorcycles that scare me. Not the Harley riders, it's these kids on the Japanese made ''pocket rockets'' tearing in and out of traffic.

Fortunately where I live now, and loving it, traffic is never an issue. Once in a while we’ll get a big group of bikers traveling thru but everyone pulls over and just lets them go right on thru.

On a related note, from Upstate NY, a recent accident. Two kids were killed. Looks like they're throwing the book at the driver...
