Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed in an incident involving a prop gun on the set of “Rust,” an Alec Baldwin film that was shooting in New Mexico on Thursday.
A second person was injured, and was receiving emergency care at a hospital in Santa Fe.
Hutchins’ death was confirmed by the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600.
“We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called ‘Rust’ in New Mexico died from injuries sustained on the set,” said John Lindley, the president of the guild, and Rebecca Rhine, the executive director, in a statement. “The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event. This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild’s family.”
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office said it was investigating the incident, which was reported at 1:50 p.m. Mountain Time at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular filming location south of Santa Fe.
“The Santa Fe County sheriff’s office confirms that two individuals were shot during filming of a scene on the set of the movie western ‘Rust’,” the office said in a statement. “According to investigators it appears that the scene being filmed involved the use of a prop firearm when it was discharged. Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.”

Multiple “rounds” fired, evidently. Too bad Baldwin’s Trump curse had collateral damage.
“Jail Baldwin.”
Can’t blame him. In staying with character you have to blame the company that made the prop gun.
Prop guns are usually solid castings of either aluminum or rubber. They are non-firing, while some do function, that is, the hammer cocks and the cylinder rotates. Some movie sets actually used real firearms that are capable of firing blanks or live (bulleted) ammunition. However, in most cases they are plugged to prevent live ammunition, this to conform to state laws requiring the modification and/or to movie set rules for safety.

New Mexico. Not Mexico. They will investigate. I just can’t believe there is no safety using prop guns as if they were real.
Wonder how ‘ol Alec’s “Schweddy Balls” are doing tonight? He’s probably not good at cookin’ either.
“Can’t blame him.”
Sure you can.
If this were Jon Voight, the left would be screaming for his movie project to be shut down and Jon sent to prison for life.
Baldwin needs to be taught a lesson, just like the left would try to do. Same rules for everybody. Without exception.
What’s a prop gun doing with real bullets???
Non-auto prop guns, for westerns, like lever actions Winchesters, and Colt .45s do not. And example of this is a John Wayne western where you see a puff of smoke from the breech of a rifle. They use 5-in-1 blanks, load with a flash powder, that gives a nice white flash for the camera.
More than adequate to blow any barrel obstruction into an actor. It's why they are SUPPOSED to have an armorer on set to confirm such things, who hands the gun to the actor just before, and takes it away immediately after the filming.
Would anyone here trust Baldwin with even a rubber gun?
Not MEXICO, NEW MEXICO.
and to be clear, this isnt the first time ever of baldwin using a prop gun that fires blanks
hes been around prop guns, for decades, since the hunt for red october
hes had full knowledge of the dangers of prop guns and been explained that blanks are dangerous numerous times on numerous films
Alec Baldwin Fired Prop Gun That Killed Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Injured Director
“You are worfress Arec Barrwin.”
Fat, anti-#2A, anti-Trump blowhard shoots & kills the female cinematographer and shoots & wounds the director.
The Democrats’ war on women continues with another confirmed kill.
The show about models is referred to in post 7.
After that tragedy happened I read about professional shooters putting their guns that were loaded with blanks back in holsters. Accidental blank discharges put good size holes in the bottom of some holsters. Didn’t happen often but it was more frequent than you would think. Some holsters even had metal in the bottom but the blanks easily tore through that to due to the concentrated gas pressure.
DM is reporting that it is ALEC BALDWIN who shot and killed.
After reading the responses on this thread, I worry about the level of intelligence and knowledge of many of my fellow freepers.
BLANKS CAN KILL!
There is NO excuse for poor trigger discipline!
If it’s a “gun”, IT IS LOADED, even if you personally cleared it 20 seconds ago!
This is a stupid death.
Absolutely
Not anymore.
“No one was arrested in the incident, and no charges have been filed”
And likely won’t be.
Yes, exactly, no charges. Homicide is a resume enhancer for Leftists...just ask Killary or Ashli Babbit’s murderer.
Try two years earlier (1988) where Baldwin handles a prop gun in “Married to the Mob>”
