This story was updated Tuesday to indicate Lehigh Valley Health Network has decided to update its policy; previously the health network had been discussing doing so.

St. Luke’s University Health Network and Lehigh Valley Health Network are allowing employees who already had COVID-19 to defer getting the COVID-19 vaccine due to the natural immunity they have against the virus.

St. Luke’s and LVHN announced Aug. 9 that they were implementing a vaccine mandate for all employees, as well as everyone who conducts business in those health care organizations. Under St. Luke’s and LVHN’s new policies, individuals who were infected with COVID-19 and recovered can defer their shots for up to 12 months from the date tested positive.

Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network officials, who announced their mandate along with St. Luke’s and LVHN, declined to comment on whether they were considering such a policy.

St. Luke’s and LVHN still encouraging employees with natural immunity to get the vaccine to maximize their protection against the viral infection. St. Luke’s leadership will also reassess the deferral requests and may update or alter guidance later based on new information.

Sam Kennedy, spokesperson for St. Luke’s, said the move to implement this exemption was made based on guidance from network infectious disease experts.

“St. Luke’s infectious disease experts are following the science, and our policies are based on the science,” Kennedy said.

About 12% of people in this country have natural immunity. Well, at least they had the disease.

Does that push us past 90% and will that be good enough for these jackasses?

So natural immunity is slowly becoming accepted, great. How about the rest of us? Are we just supposed to willingly become third class citizens?

I wonder if these health systems are still testing vaxxed employees...

And what their nosocomial infection rates are for CoupFlu...
