JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—A Florida woman has spent the night in jail after refusing to leave her daughter's side at the hospital.
“I stand by my actions 100%. I am not sorry that I made them take me out of there in handcuffs,” Lynn Savage told Action News Jax.
Savage refused to leave her daughter's side while she was recovering from brain surgery at the University of Florida Health North. She said her daughter is non-verbal and was partially paralyzed after suffering from a stroke.
“I could not in good conscience and good heart leave her bedside not knowing how she was going to make it through the night voluntarily," Savage said.
The 70-year-old great-grandmother said she needed to be there to help her daughter remain calm and to interpret.
“The nurse said that the visiting hours were over at 7 p.m. and I had to leave and I said, 'I’m not going to leave. I want to stay here with my daughter. Can you call the doctor because the doctor is the one that wanted me here with her?' And she said no that they couldn’t do that that COVID rules said that visiting hours were over at 7 p.m.,” Savage said.
An arrest report says security spent ours pleading for Savage to leave before arresting her. She spent about 24 hours in jail.
“Not an experience that I would ever want to do again for the rest of my life not ever. It was horrible. It was filthy, it was more like an insane asylum with the women screaming and hollering and banging on bars and banging on walls. It was just terrifying, but I would rather be there than know that I had walked away from my daughter," she said.
She was booked for trespassing.

I think I’m about done with FR for awhile. I do not understand people who criticize others because they do not fall lock step in with their position on things.
I have a question for you. Do you work in a hospital? How is it you are so ‘knowledgeable’ as you think you are?
I might add, I work in an ER, we have one doctor who thinks everyone should get a covid vaccine and another who thinks nobody should get a covid vaccine that everyone who does will be dead within 5 years. They are both very smart and ALLOWED TO HAVE THEIR OWN OPINION, they don’t have to only have YOUR opinion and frankly, neither do I.
Well said!
Again, well said!
Thanks you, I think your opinion and my opinion have just as much worth as others and we should not be bullied because it is different than theirs.
dear Lord, what have we become to arrest a mother for staying with a sickly just operated on adult child...
EMPATHY and COMMON DECENCY and COMMON SENSE should be more prevalent.
Our neighbor's wife had a SEVERE STROKE, and he wasn't allowed to see her for MONTHS and MONTHS and MONTHS.......he DIED a few weeks ago from heartbreak.
let me just say this.....this covid has emboldened the scum leaders....if they can get away with it, they will....
if they ever wondered what they would do in 1930's Germany, well now they know...
We are relevant!
Those are decisions nurses make every day. They know the difference between who needs someone to stay with them and who just refuses to leave because they want to stay. Like I said at the beginning, I think there are two sides to this story.
I’m sorry about your neighbor, and as I said upthread, our hospital makes allowances but our hospital is small and we live in a small community. I will concede that not all hospitals are as compassionate as ours but people get kicked out of our hospital too and that is why I think there is more than one side to this story. In our community they get on facebook and say bad things but being there I know the other side of the story and because of HIPAA we cannot get on facebook and give our side.
This mother was in her 70’s and may just be being difficult. I would not understand otherwise why the police would arrest her unless she was just being nasty and uncooperative. I don’t know but I would like to see the hospitals point of view. Could be a very different story.
You might look at the plank in your own eye before removing the plank from others
************************************ I have no problem acknowledging the planks that are in my eyes. And they are many. My problem is with those that can’t acknowledge theirs.
Absolute clarity!....kudos
