JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—A Florida woman has spent the night in jail after refusing to leave her daughter's side at the hospital.
“I stand by my actions 100%. I am not sorry that I made them take me out of there in handcuffs,” Lynn Savage told Action News Jax.
Savage refused to leave her daughter's side while she was recovering from brain surgery at the University of Florida Health North. She said her daughter is non-verbal and was partially paralyzed after suffering from a stroke.
“I could not in good conscience and good heart leave her bedside not knowing how she was going to make it through the night voluntarily," Savage said.
The 70-year-old great-grandmother said she needed to be there to help her daughter remain calm and to interpret.
“The nurse said that the visiting hours were over at 7 p.m. and I had to leave and I said, 'I’m not going to leave. I want to stay here with my daughter. Can you call the doctor because the doctor is the one that wanted me here with her?' And she said no that they couldn’t do that that COVID rules said that visiting hours were over at 7 p.m.,” Savage said.
An arrest report says security spent ours pleading for Savage to leave before arresting her. She spent about 24 hours in jail.
“Not an experience that I would ever want to do again for the rest of my life not ever. It was horrible. It was filthy, it was more like an insane asylum with the women screaming and hollering and banging on bars and banging on walls. It was just terrifying, but I would rather be there than know that I had walked away from my daughter," she said.
She was booked for trespassing.

The woman just should have said she was a Muslim, and was doing an Islamic religious vigil. They would have left her alone.
Hmmm, I am conflicted on this report.
So am I.
We're finally getting reports of the Qanon headquarters.
....or your basement.
Then I take it, you haven’t got a daughter.
If DeSantis hears about this some Hospital employees and maybe local cops will be fired
I sense there is more to this story and I would like to hear it.
As we’ve seen so many times with Covid, they make up rules for the sake of rules. I’d love to see the “science” that shows Covid magically becomes more dangerous after 7 p.m.
Was the country insane before covid or did the insanity start in march 2020?
Yes, I have two, one of whom is slightly disabled. My 34year old daughter doesn’t communicate well, with a low IQ. I see things slightly different from you. Given your statement, perhaps, realizing my daughter CAN communicate somewhat does ease my concern than she would do finely overnight without me.
Thanks for your insight.
thank you
You are kind!
Hospitals have to be in charge of these decisions. They should be as compassionate as possible, but just think about the alternative.
‘Was the country insane before covid or did the insanity start in march 2020?’
Great question. It is my opinion that the insanity has been festering among 25% of us citizens for years. With the jealousy of Trump and the well-planned campaign of the Media, the 25% grew a bit. A strong bit. Enough to give us Dominion and stealing the election.
IMO
Hospitals have to be in charge of these decisions
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Right, because we’ve seen nothing over the last 18 months to think that hospitals and doctors make decisions based on anything but righteous reasons.
The medical community is a cult
USA is turning into an unabashed Police State.
I remember the days when I sat for a week at my father’s bedside in a hospital as he was recovering from his second quadruple heart bypass surgery.
Times have changed and not for the better.
