ZIMPARKS spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said Michael Bernard Walsh (71) was killed while taking an unguided tour with his son in Mana Pools National park in the north of the country.

The two had walked about 40 meters from where they had parked their car when they encountered the elephants, with one of them charging at them, Farawo said.

The son managed to escape and reach the car while Walsh could not outrun the elephant which trampled him to death.

An old friend’s lovely daughter was killed by an elephant while on safari in Africa.

I asked how it happened. Apparently the girl went up to pet it.

The son now inherits Trillions of Zimbabwe dollars. Should be enough to buy flowers for his deceased father.

Just like with bears, you don’t have to out run the bear, just have to out run who you are with.

On our way out of Yellowstone 3 years ago, my grandson said, “I’m bored.” A few seconds later, a 2000 pound male bison strolled by our car from the other side of the road. It wasn’t more than several feet from our car.

My grandson wasn’t bored any longer... lol.

All they needed was one live mouse apiece! Everyone knows elephants are afraid of mice.

Spent a month living in the bush in Tanzania filming a hunting safari for a client. There are no fences, etc, this is as wild as it gets. For every animal you see there are 10 more killers watching you. We had many encounters with wild elephants and were very cautious about our behavior so there were no issue. One time we were tracking Cape Buffalo and only after we arrived at camp later that evening did our Maasai warrior tracker tell us about a large female elephant that was tracking us, sometimes only meters away. They are extremely quiet and stealthy in the bush.

Could there be anything worse than watching your dad get trampled to death by an elephant while the two of you are on a lifelong dream safari? Just awful. I feel terrible for the young man who had to see that. He’s going to have a hard time of “if only” when he thinks he ran away from Dad and left him to fend for himself.

Interesting post and venture no doubt.

I watch a lot of videos of Wild Animals......there’s a reason they’re called “Wild”. Closest I’ve been to wild animals was a walk thru zoo in Florida.....the walk way was above the ground and where necessary screens were there. That was enough for me to ‘experience’ animals outside of cages etc. Its amazing the size of animals when you see them as they are.
