The CEO of Minnetonka Moccasins issued an apology for profiting off of Native American culture.
The company is pledging to do more to support tribal communities and timed its Monday apology to coincide with Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day.
“We deeply and meaningfully apologize for having benefited from selling Native-inspired designs without directly honoring Native culture or communities,” said Minnetonka CEO David Miller in a statement posted to the company's website. “While Minnetonka has evolved beyond our original product set, moccasins remain a core part of our brand, and in 2020 we began to step up our commitment to the culture to which we owe so much.”
The company said it has hired Adrienne Benjamin, who is a member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, as a reconciliation adviser.
"We have been listening to and learning from voices in the Native community to live up to and expand upon the action plan we originally developed in fall of 2020," read the company's statement. "We are grateful to our Native American advisors, who continually provide valuable insight and counsel on our plans and the specifics of its execution."
"We will continue to move forward in a manner that acknowledges and honors the Native American culture, design, and people who have influenced our brand and business. This journey will remain important to our company forever," Miller said.

Ho Ho Ho
I guess that Native American woman needs to stop wearing jeans cuz of cultural appropriation. Huh?
David Miller is a cuck.
It’s probably right up there in importance with Inclusion and Diversity Officers. How did companies ever function without them?
No more kayaks for the REI crowd. My sister hangs with some of them. One recently overturned, but being a good lib, didn’t wear a life jacket. Bad idea.
its a tribal thing jerry!!!
I didn’t count them up, but it seems as if 50% or more of the states have names derived from Indian words.

SOMEBODY APOLOGIZE!!
No more papoose holders. No more bow hunting, no more corn growing. No more ticket scalpers. No more hatchets. No more teepees. Well, I suppose that is ok, since I think most of us don’t live in a teepee. I did see a few, however, under the international bridge, between Eagle Pass, Texas and Piedras Negras, Mexico. I wondered how people could live like this is America?
He should put a sock in it - his craven cowardice and his moccasins.
I need a new pair, now I guess I need to find a new moccasin company. Maybe one run by white supremacists...
Somebody should tell her she has a booger hanging out of her nose.
But they won't. Hypocrites. As usual, it's all for show.
I have worn Minnetonka Moccasins for years. I will be looking somewhere else also. This woke culture is getting to be to much.
Hehehehehehe!
We used to have a Chief Aviation Machinist Mate from Georgia IIRC who we named Chief Muddy Waters because of the giant wad of ever present chaw in his mouth and the constant stream of thick brown fluid he was always spitting out from underneath his bristly mustache...:)
It was funny, he was the one who seemed to give everyone their nickname, and when this moniker was applied to him by us, he seemed quite pleased with it!
most folks aint pussies
Agreed...
Well, this is stupid. But I can’t boycott them. I have A LOT of problems with shoes, and their flip flops are quite comfortable for me. I’m wearing a pair as I type, in fact!
I’m going to do with this like what I’m going to do with Ben & Jerry’s (’cause Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz is the best ice cream on the planet). When I buy the product I’ll make a donation to the other side. So, for B & J, it’ll be an Israeli charity, or direct to the IDF if that’s possible.
Any suggestions for some worthy outfit who deserves an amount equal to what I’ll pay these dopes for making great shoes? (I mean, I suppose I could go wager it in some Indian-run casino, but it ain’t gonna be more than $100 so probably more use elsewhere.)
Hell, what they should apologize for is having their damn shoes MADE IN CHINA.
