Gabby Petito's cause of death was strangulation, and the manner of death was homicide, Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue just announced at a news conference.
Officials previously announced her death was a homicide in preliminary findings.
The coroner said that the body had been in the wilderness for three to four weeks before it had been discovered.
Blue explained that it took a month to reach a final autopsy because officials were very "exacting" in their examination of the details.
He noted that they were also waiting for other specialists to arrive to help with this investigation and for toxicology to be returned.
"It was just a matter of making sure we had everything right," he told reporters. The news conference is ongoing.

Well that’s just it...and whatever ‘actually’ happened has remained a mystery to all who are not investigating this case...but there sure are many on the outside who think they know and have determined what they think will be the outcome.
As I see it there’s nothing unusual about this case....a highly charged toxic relationship gone bad often leads to violence and or death. Such as with Jodie Aries and the guy she murdered.
Yes, right now we are guessing at what evidence the cops have, but it looks as though they have what they need. My guess, anyway.
I wonder if she was in a shallow grave, wrapped in a tarp, etc. After 20 days in Wyoming I would have thought her body would have been pretty picked clean by animals.
Sounds as if there is forensics evidence linking him to this. His actions since/around her death aren't doing his profile any favors either.
The coroner analyzed the body and knows what’s what. His is
not some ‘biased assumption’ but a determination based on actual, firsthand evidence, knowledge and experience.
Not the typical profile of an innocent person, especially with what has been revealed of her finding and manner of death. But hey, I'm all for due process, hearing/seeing all the evidence (including Brian's side if he is ever questioned or tried), and making a fair determination from there. What and who is holding that up now?
Very good question. This whole case is bazaar and if you think about it, it's handling is even more bazaar. Back in the day, all the news would be reporting that a “Nationwide manhunt” was under way for this kid. Not now and why? All of the things you put together in your post would have had LE blasting their efforts to find this creep. Is it because of the white girl vs. black girl garbage? Is his family “connected” to the FIB in some way? The parent's actions have been awful yet they're getting a pass. This whole case is very strange. I truly hope that Dog TBH finds this kid because it would clearly demonstrate the FIB’s incompetence.

LE has been incompetent at best. No reason this kid should not have been under surveillance or questioned. But it is ultimately Brian snd his fleeing who is holding this up.
The homicide occurred in a federal park, on federal land, which is why the FBI is involved.
That’s how you’d die from erotic asphyxiation. It may come down to whether or not she was clothed. If it goes to trial, at all.

She was clothed. Her stepfather was in Wyoming and identified her remains by a favorite hoodie she was wearing that was made locally. That rules out your sex fantasy.
I think he killed her because she was a sort of perfectionist and pissed him off past his level.
I still wonder about those two murdered women found around the same time.
Did that have anything to do with this?
