Rodents the Size of St. Bernards Swarm an Exclusive Gated Community
WSJ ^ | 10 Oct 2021 | Silvina Frydlewsky

The lavish villas of Nordelta have for years hosted bucolic getaways for Argentina’s wealthy, protected in an enclave where industry titans and soccer stars seek escape from the torments of city life.

Yet even an exclusive gated community can’t keep out the world’s biggest rodent.

“The problem is that their population is out of control, and people are too scared to do anything. No one wants to look like they’re opposed to nature.”

Mr. Iglesias’s lakeside garden gets a daily serving of jumbo scat ...

The big rodents, which typically live in family units of as many as 40 animals, go by different names in various countries: chigüire in Venezuela, ronsoco in Peru, poncho in Panama and carpincho in Argentina. Females can give birth to half a dozen offspring a year.

They sunbathe and graze at man-made lagoons, protected from such natural predators as jaguars and caimans, the South American alligator.

Another idea: Castrate males.

Another idea: Castrate males.

Just the rodents or are we supposed to apply that more generally?

This is a rat burger?

Q. What kind of rodent do you use for hamburger?

A. "Ground" squirrel...

Highlite to read the answer, after you've guessed!

Do they have a cask of medicinal spirits around their necks?

If they do, perhaps they are like four legged ambulances.

Trying to provide comfort to those who are aling, I mean ailing.

This is silly. There are very large animals in the rodent family. They are not new. They are not nuked rats. They have always existed and Alligator types as well as large cats love to snap them up. We have some as well in the US. A beaver is a rodent and they get to be 70 lbs. In the Louisiana swamps we have Nutria. They are over 20 pounds. And of course there are porcupines that are over 30 lbs. Then there are capybara which can be as large as 150 pounds. These are good eaten for Jaguars and Caiman.

Take a walk almost anywhere in Chicago late on a warm night.
You will see them.

If anything like the rats in Chiraq, the casks would be dry before they made they past the front porch.

The capybaras seem to enjoy the good life in Nordelta. They sunbathe and graze at man-made lagoons, protected from such natural predators as jaguars and caimans, the South American alligator.
