...This week, India's government unveiled a compensation program that would provide 50,000 rupees (about $670) to the families of past and future Covid-19 victims. That's more than half of what most people in the country earn annually, according to the government's most recent estimate of income per capita for the 2019-2020 financial year.
In theory, the program should help people like Srivastava. But experts believe the true death toll may be many times the official tally of 450,000 ...
...only 22% of all registered fatalities were given an official cause of death, certified by a doctor, according to community medicine specialist Dr. Hemant Shewade.
... to apply for compensation, next of kin must provide a death certificate stating Covid-19 was the cause of death....
...In July, the US-based Center for Global Development estimated that during the pandemic, India could have had between 3.4 and 4.9 million more deaths than in previous years — meaning the government's official Covid-19 toll could be several times lower than reality....
...at the peak of the wave, more than 4,000 people were dying every day, many on the streets and outside hospitals filled past capacity....

I thought they threw the bodies in the river ?
The real problem is proving that horse drugs such as Ivermectin, and those crazy metal Zinc pills are ineffective.
If we can pay money to people to prove that the death count numbers are what we want, That is deductible business cost
I could see this a mile away. They want the narrative that ivermectin is ineffective. They do this by questioning the death numbers produced by India, saying they are way under counting.
All of a sudden CNN is interested in the death counts in India.. hmmm.. Could you make it more obvious?
India folks rejected it and went with the vaccine instead, with aboout 70% on first dose in areas that spawned Delta Plus, such as Uttar Pradash which ended up with the 5th highest cases in the nation in spite of so-called ‘maintenance’ doses or home treatment. Monoclonals, under the brand name, Ronapreve, have also been in use in India since May. Between the two, the death rate has dropped correspondingly, from a June 2021 rate of over 3%, to a July rate of 2.2% to a September rate of 1.2-3% (lower than the USA at 1.6-8%)
Vaccinations took off in India in May of this year, with the 70% being an end-of-September total. “The average daily vaccination in September has been 79.08 lakh per day,” according to IndiaTvNews.com (lakh=100,000 x 79 = about 8 million/day)
back in the USA, for the vaccine hesitant this year, we, too, have monoclonals. Which is a good thing considering shortened incubation time and, so far, there’s no way to know, if you’re going to get an asymptomatic case, or a quote-mild case or end up like a fish on the riverbank.

cool little graphic here that shows the major India states jockeying for position over time:

India death undercounts have been questioned since their first wave back in Mar 2021 - when we did see bodies in the Ganges.
What makes the story new is, now we have families saying they had a death, but they don’t have a death certificate that would allow them to collect the compensation the govt is offering. (And for the 24% illiterate in the country, no clue where to start since they don’t read or write and may not even have had a village doctor)
(I just typo'd and corrected flu ... I mistyped FKU, and I wonder .... maybe I should have kept it ?)
They just need a new invention from Bill Gates. A sensor under the skin on their right hand that detects covid.
They're supposed to throw the ashes in the river but wood to burn is a premium in India so the end result is that often only partially burned corpses get tossed.
because it couldn’t possibly be because of vaccines and monoclonals distributed after the first deadly wave that invermectin did nothing to allieviate. Except maybe in the 90% ‘survivability’ group who wouldn’t need it anyway and just contributed to invermectin-resistance.
If that obvious ommited truth is admitted to, instead of letting people in America think Indians were caveman people who had nothing else, some pandemicprofiteer charlatans with their misleading charts and cherry-picked data might lose some of their clicks and income and credibility, and that would be a shame, for them, anyway
