Imagine trying to call roll on the first day of school. I’ve done this and make a point of calling the last name and asking them to pronounce it for me. I then try to figure out how to spell it so that I can say it. But these kids (who admittedly are dealing with bigger problems right now) are going to have to deal with their ‘unique’ first names for the rest of their lives—very office visit, every phone call, every introduction.

I wouldn’t last past 1st period as a teacher, with names like that in my class. They would all get nicknamed .
