I have seen reports about the Chinese military that indicate training for the average soldier focuses on indoctrination more than military skills. They probably have well trained elite units that will hit key targets and sleeper agents who will stir up trouble until they are rounded up, but the lowly soldiers will take up their traditional role of cannon fodder.

Outwardly he may not care but if he lost face in the view of the Chinese citizens then he’d have to worry about being booted out of office or a citizen uprising due to his losing face.
