Florida fugitive Brian Laundrie’s attorney said Wednesday that Christopher Laundrie would begin assisting authorities in the search for his son – who was last seen on Sept. 13, just days after his fiancée Gabby Petito officially became a missing person.
The FBI later uncovered Petito’s remains at a remote Wyoming campsite on Sept. 19.
"Chris Laundrie was asked to assist law enforcement in their search for Brian at the preserve today," Steve Bertolino, the family's attorney, told Fox News Wednesday night. "Since the preserve has been closed to the public, Chris has not been able to look for Brian in the only place Chris and Roberta believe Brian may be."
He added that North Port police "had to postpone" the elder's Laundrie's participation and that he did not take part in the search Wednesday, which saw an increased police presence after resources appeared to have been drawn down over the weekend.
"Chris and Roberta are hopeful there will be another opportunity to assist," he added, referring to both of Brian Laundrie's parents.
Josh Taylor, the North Port Police Department's chief spokesman, told Fox News that his department did not ask for Chris Laundrie's involvement – nor did police "postpone" it.
"In no world would we be the agency asking the family to help search in an FBI led investigation," he said, deferring further questions to the FBI, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
And Pat Diaz, a former Miami-Dade homicide detective who also served on FBI task forces, said he doubted federal investigators would bring in a suspect's father to help their search.
"They may have found stuff in the reserve for the father to identify," he said. "Not a body, but belongings."

I’d want this father scanned for a tracking device. If they are coming close and his position can be known through satellite, the mom might alert Brian.
Even if all Dog did was make the guy a little nervous, he’s also made Brian more careless and possibly easier to capture.
That’s a good thing in my book.

Things decay at a bizarre rate in Florida. I remember once seeing a road-milled dog in the morning. By afternoon it looked like a purple balloon.
If he really has headed north, the cold & snow will be incentive to make him give up.
There is, as we speak plenty of decaying dead stuff out here.
Plus its about time for the homeless to come-on-down & set up camp out there, which they do.
Plus N Port and Venice have proceeded with installing some pretty nice trails for everyone and anyone to travel. All the way from N Port to Sarasota via the Carton and adjoining preserves

If he’s dead and above water, a good birdwatcher could find him by watching the vultures and crows.

But there’s some reason why they keep searching there and even seemed to concentrate the search today.
If he’s there, he’s dead.
He would have been seen on IR by now. And the bugs would drive him crazy. It’s a better chance he’s living in someone’s basement.
Eric Rudolf stayed hidden in the Smokeys for almost a year, but he knew the area, it has better ground cover and probably had a little help. Swampy Florida wilderness areas aren’t good places to hide, not to me anyway.
I think Rudolph was on the lam for about 5 years.
(But they built even bad men very differently back then.)

Brian Laundrie’s parents appear to be changing their account of when their son went missing as cracks begin to show in their story.
The Laundries initially reported their son missing on September 17, saying they last saw him on September 14....Now, the family’s attorney, Steven Bertolino, says Laudrie’s parents believe he left their home on September 13.
The updated timeline coincides with the release of a police report which shows that the car Laundrie drove from his family’s home was never parked at the Carlton Reserve
According to a redacted police report about an abandoned car — believed to be Laundrie’s — the Ford Mustang was discovered at 6968 Reisterstown Road at Myakkahatchee Environmental Park. [ 17 miles away from Carlton Reserve]
but wait, there’s more -the Laundrie attorney doesn’t know where the storage unit was, but the father does, as he apparently helped his son move things out of it to his home.
