Let’s look at the People’s Liberation Army. The whole lot of them, army, navy, air force, rocket force and the auxiliary navy. The last are civilian registered ships, operated by navy personnel under military command disguised as fishing trawlers. Yes, the PLA is a powerful force on first glance. However, first looks are deceiving. What they lack is combat experience. They have no veterans. None whatsoever...The current price for three stars (lieutenant general) is 2.5 million dollars. Any Chinese with the right connections and at least that amount of money can become a general. That kind of corruption seeps through down below.

Indeed.
China sucker punched an unexpecting dispersed force that was told by its leaders all that was left is mopping up.
Once the forces were reorganized with new leadership the Chinese were stopped cold and rolled back with huge losses.
The only reason the war was ended was the West was nervous about Russia coming to rescue the Chinese effort. Nukes were new then and everyone was convinced a US/Russia confrontation would have to go nuclear. So a status quo ante peace was arranged
That is why they might shift wave after wave by land southwest.
Like it says will happen in the Bible.
You’re right.
And I missed something.
The Chinese that attacked the UN forces were survivors of WW2 and the Chinese civil war. The current Chinese PLA have not fought a war since 1979, and they lost that one. They have zero combat experience. Something else I read suggests that the PLA leadership is fabulously corrupt, too.
So I can’t compare the troops that attacked us in Korea to the current PLA. And we still beat the PVA in Korea.
So you are very right.
The only thing that worries me is that our own leadership is also fabulously corrupt (and incompetent) as well and our military, with all its combat experience is exhausted and hollowed out.
The Germans in WWII looted copiously and fast. Taiwan doesn't offer enough loot for China to gain enormously, it appears to me. A war offers more suffering. Will the Chinese population see it as worthwhile, when they do not trust their government?
Agree. Our troops will fight well and bravely only to betrayed by our hollowed out leadership.
$2.5 Million gets three stars in China. I would guess $2.5 million cash would get China an American four star on the open market.
Probably already has got a couple to go along with the CIC.
China’s best advantage is Biden as commander in chief and his woke generals. Look at the fiasco in Afghanistan and then consider how such bone headed leadership would do when faced with an invasion of Taiwan. The radicals running his foreign policy would quickly push for appeasement and hand Taiwan to the Chinese.
Does Taiwan have enough Cruise Missiles to sink them all, before landing troops? If not, we need to resupply them.
...you simply buy a few generals! It happened in the past. Sun Tzu wrote about it, as a valid strategy in The Art of War [pdf].

Well, they already bought the Clintons and Joe Biden, along who knows how many in Congress.
I need to edit that page - I have a couple dozen more good ones since the last update. :)
You can’t spell “lost,” without LT.
Yep, in the Korean War, the communists used up the nationalist troops that had defected to them in the last stages of the campaign civil war. It was a useful way to get rid of them.
“I bet Trump regrets that appointment now.”
Yes and hopefully he learns from it. Trump made many bad hires and appointments and he needs to work on reducing that to a minimum.
China can never go to war with us as their whole economy is totally dependent on us. War would be suicidal. China is not suicidal, nor stupid enough to destroy their own economy and have a nation of starving citizens that would turn against them in a nano-second.
China today is ‘prosperous’ only because we are dependent on them for a majority of our goods. Their leaders know this.
Will they try to take over Taiwan? That is an altogether different question. I say yes, with Biden in office. They know he and whoever is controlling him will not go to war with them over Taiwan.
However taking over Taiwan is not as simple as they make it look. They almost would have to destroy Taiwan to take it over - then what’s left for them? Nothing.
China was willing to kill 50 million of their own to impose Autarky and wean themselves from Western economic influence during the Mao era.
China can go for Taiwan because the Biden infested USA would gladly turn over Taiwan to China. China would rather get that prize by threats and US prodding and abandonment than by having to shoot it out with Taiwan and probably Japan. Japan knows that if China gets Taiwan without having to destroy its plunder value then China will go after South Korea and Japan. I think that if they think they are going to go for it, it must be soon unless China has assurances that American elections in 22 and 24 are already in the bag for the Democrats.
Mexico is 10 000X more dangerous than China - and El Salvador and Honduras are worse.
That poverty-stricken China no longer exists.
Today’s China has something of a middle-class and too many now have cars and nice apartments.
Who also are not so ready to die for an ideology imposed on them. They’ve tasted a small bit of freedom and will not readily give it up, let alone die to lose it.
