Three Houston valet workers are dead after a suspect involved in a police pursuit struck them “at a very high speed” Friday night.
An officer saw the vehicle “doing donuts in a private parking lot” at about 10:30 p.m. local time, before the driver drove eastbound and, with the officer in pursuit, then “accelerated at a very high speed,” striking the victims before crashing in a ditch, Yasar Bashir, an assistant chief with Houston Police, said at a press briefing late Friday.
The victims, whose names were not released, were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and his passenger were transported to a hospital, said Bashir. He noted they sustained non-life-threatening injuries and that the driver’s potential impairment was being investigated.
“We’re out here because one person decided they didn’t want to get a ticket or potentially go to jail for a misdemeanor,” Sean Teare, Chief of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division, said at the briefing.
He noted that authorities estimate the driver sped up to 60 mph and even if intoxication played a role, the suspect would face felony murder charges for each of the victims - each count of which carries a sentence of anywhere from five years to life in prison.
“We’re talking about three individuals who were just out here working. They were out here doing their job. They were coming back from parking cars going to get more cars,” said Teare.
Police are still in the process of positively identifying the driver - why he was doing the stunts - and his passenger, said Teare, who believes the latter “was pretty severely injured,” for which the driver might also face charges.

So tragic.
And so stupid.
Doing donuts on private property isn’t likely even a crime. Maybe a private property crime but not something worth risking other people’s lives. Worst outcome possible.
“ while the driver and his passenger were transported to a hospital”
Where they will be treated. Unless they’re unvaccinated. Then they will be deemed unworthy
All 3 dead at the scene. That must have been one bad whack they took. Probably a t-bone.
Had no idea doing donuts in a parking lot is illegal, maybe Texas freezers can explain
There’s something to be said for summary execution. Yeah, slippery slope and all that, but sometimes it’s so freaking obvious.
Maybe the parking lot owner wanted him out.
.
Admin, you can remove #8. Probably not appropriate where folks were killed.
RIP and prayers for the families.
“Yasar Bashir, an assistant chief with Houston Police, said at a press briefing late Friday.”
Wonderful.
Unless a gun is involved, Minneapolis police will not pursue a carjacking.
Dang. And I was just watching “idiot driver” movies on YouTube that included drivers in high HP cars doing donuts in parking lots. Usually they just smacked light poles or other cars. Dang.
Haitians without driver licenses are welcome.
Also United Nations people can commit vehicle crimes and have diplomatic immunity under most circumstances. If not still true, some wise person here can set me straight.
I more than once rubbed it in that American taxpayers funded the Boston Marathon bomber Tzarnov brothers and their family (here by chain migration) for over $210,00 in entitlements. Probably financed the explosives for the bombs by our taxes.
A reporter asked a friend of the brothers to fill him in on something personal about the brothers:
“Something personal? Oh, I guess I would say both of them really loved BMWs. Loved them. They would take two out to a big store parking lot in the mornings and rev them up both do doughnuts for a long time. They just loved BMWs.”
I think the innocent killed were “pedestrians,” not in any vehicle.
We get an occasional death in suburban Maine, driver leaves the road and hits a person walking, jogging, etc. 6,000/year nationwide.
This is true, "Diplomatic immunity." Not just diplomats assigned to the UN, but diplomats at any mission.
