Impossible Foods, the plant-based meat company, is releasing a long-awaited new product — but unlike the wildly popular Impossible Burger, it won’t be certified kosher.
The largest and most influential certifier of kosher products in the world has declined to endorse Impossible Pork, even though nothing about its ingredients or preparation conflicts with Jewish dietary laws.
“The Impossible Pork, we didn’t give an ‘OU’ to it, not because it wasn’t kosher per se,” said Rabbi Menachem Genack, the CEO of the Orthodox Union’s kosher division. “It may indeed be completely in terms of its ingredients: If it’s completely plant-derived, it’s kosher. Just in terms of sensitivities to the consumer … it didn’t get it.” […]
“I don’t think the OU labeling on it has a huge impact on me,” said Rabbi Justin Held, the director of Jewish education at Herzl Camp and the University of Minnesota Hillel, who described himself as a “huge Impossible fan.”
But he said he was concerned about marit ayin, or appearance to the eye, a concept in Jewish law that prohibits actions which appear to violate Jewish law, even if they technically do not. The concept raises the concern that someone who sees Held eating an Impossible Pork banh mi sandwich, for example, might think that he eats non-kosher meat. …

I would just eat plants before eating fake food. 🤪
A pig in a poke salad sort of thing.
Why do vegetarians want their food to look and “taste” like meat?
Because meat is sooooooo good!
I want my food to taste like it died screaming.
I thought Impossible Pork was where the Dems passed Covid stimulus money and now the ridiculous debt blowout under consideration to provide pork projects for Dem districts (as they have done the past two years with NPR, rebuilding riot destruction in cities, Planned Parenthood, tax funded abortions as “health” plan item and much more. Over 80% going to blue states.) Everything but new roofs and concrete driveways for Pelosi and Schumer’s mansions. Oh wait, that’s covered in line 15,797.
If I wanted to eat Soylent Green, I would. However, I don’t, so I eat real food - like pig, cow, chicken eggs, real butter, etc.
Don’t worry, Jewish people (most of them, at least) put Liberalism far ahead of anything else in their lives, even their own survival. They’ll be ‘instructed’ to approve this garbage, and they will.
So do “Christians”.
But this thread isn’t about that. And the context is tenuous.
Impossible
Vegetarians...
Just like there is no such thing as "Military Intellegence". Or "Simple Job".
I am sure this is going to piss off a lot of Jewish Freepers but when I was in the food business in most of the world you could get bacon wrapped shrimp certified kosher for the right price just about. Not saying this is like that but... I saw Mexican lard processors certified for safflower oil processing with the U and K with no dedicated lines nor new capital outlay.
Not an expert on the laws of Kashrut, but since both were hot processes... there were payments.
Plant-based is a misnomer. All meat is derived from plants. The chicken, pig, buffalo and other animals eat plants to form the meat in their bodies. Also, many of these new “plant-based”meat enterprises use fungi to produce their product. Look into the company Quorn which uses fermentation of Fusarium vennenetum to produce its products.
wonder why they don’t call it trans plants...
I’d like to see that catch on.
Sorry, but that I don’t believe. The Bible is quite explicit about what animals are clean and unclean, and both pigs and crustaceans are blatantly so.
Pigs and crustaceans are blatantly unclean, that is. Can’t buy one’s way into that.
