Three-and-a-half months after putting in a bid to buy the Arlington International Racecourse property, the Bears have signed a purchase agreement for the 326-acre plot, a mayoral spokesperson said late Tuesday night.
It’s the latest — but not final — step toward moving the team from Soldier Field to the site, located 6 miles north of the Northwest Tollway, which held its last race Saturday.
The Bears said in June that they were among the groups to put in a bid to purchase the property. If the franchise’s bid was accepted, the team said then, it would be able to “further evaluate the property and its potential.” That is the case now, though the team could still negotiate with the city to remain on the lakefront.
The team told Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot about the purchase agreement Tuesday night.

Arlington Heights, though politically a "suburb" is an area of urban population density. Unlike Chicago it is not overrun with feral types and still policed.
Not good.
Like I give a hoot?
Too bad
The New Soldier’s Field looks great with dramatic location

Really?
How’s them suburban taxes going for you?
What’s your (lake) water costing you a month?
I lived in Homer Glen for 10 years and the “pro-team” costs got pushed on EVERYBODY, like it or not.
Our village (yours too) had a “roll-up” tax for Toyota Field...three suburbs over.
Soccer..futbal.
Do you attend...or, just wager on the competition?
I’m pretty sure I know the answer.
Have a Goose Island and be comnfy...ya cuck.
NBC has a trio of shows based on Chicago... And all of the characters are mighty white... i.e. Not a whole lot of color there. Is Chicago slowly turning into the new Detroit?
For some reason, I recall back in the mid 1980s some sort of talk about how they were going to build one of these super duper new stadiums in Chicago to replace Soldier Field, Wrigley Field, and old Comiskey Park and it was going to be a lot like the Metrodome in Minneapolis (with the dome and Astroturf, etc). I guess that never really got off the ground and they, of course, built a new ballpark for the White Sox to replace old Comiskey.
Mayor Lighthead gets her wish - The Rich White people from the Suburbs who she despises, will not be coming into her City anymore.
This is good. Stick it to the city of Chicago.
I was talking bout the NFL. As far as the corporate handouts are concerned, that sucks. But since I live 150 miles from any sizable town, that’s too bad for the city dwellers. It’s their responsibility to fight it.
The racetrack is in the middle of housing subdivisions. I’m sure that the neighbors are going to love this.
I give a hoot. That was a beautiful track. Churchill Downs owned it along with a nearby casino. CD killed the track. Ticks me off that the track will be replaced by that black thug minstrel show NFL.
bump
The state has killed the Horse Racing industry in Illinois. CD is looking for a return on their investment and this will be the only way to do that. It is a beautiful place, sorry to see it go.
I grew up in Arlington Hts. in the 1950’s when it was a town of 8,000 (it was up to 28,000 when we left in 1958). Lovely town back then. Tough to imagine what that whole area will be like in another ten years.
The exits off Route 53 were often backed up for race days so it will be an increase in traffic, not starting from zero. When the Bulls and /or Blackhawks start making noise about moving into the same area, then there is White Flight from Chicago.
Ya think maybe they could use a new covered stadium instead of the terrible one they play in now?
They built a whole new Soldier field inside the old concrete façade.
Shitago already is the new Detoilet, just bigger.
