Alan Jackson is opening up to fans about a disease he’s been battling for years.
The 62-year-old country singer told the “Today” show that he’s been battling a “no cure” degenerative neurological condition called Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease for the better part of a decade.
“It’s not going to kill me. It’s not deadly,” Jackson said about the disease he inherited from his father. “But it’s related (to) muscular dystrophy and Parkinson’s disease,” he added, detailing how CMT has cut into the “Chattahoochee” musician’s ability to perform live.

Prayers for him.
Yep
Amazon has his documentary, “Alan Jackson - Small Town Southern Man” on both Prime and DVD to purchase.
It is very good. I almost didn’t watch it but glad I did.
Yep....me too! Loved country line dancing but the music I had to get use to. I was fortunate the guys needed someone who they could lead at times...I was great at that.....but then ballroom dancing teaches you that.
Yep...that’s him. He has that old country nasal twang. Which is what I had to get accustomed to.
Yep...I even bought a pair of cowboy boots. Such fun and was out of my comfort zone at the time. But I learned to love it and did well at dancing too.
I love most music with the exception of bluegrass....I can watch it live and appreciate it then for the talent...otherwise it’s not a good listen for me.
One of my favorites of AJ was always the 9/11 Tribute (Where were you when the world stopped turning?), She Got the Rhythm, and I got the Blues, Midnight in Montgomery, Wanted, Someday, and Tonight I climbed the wall.
He had some marital issues with Sandy back in the late 90’s, I think - but was one of those I saw live a handful of times from 1993 - 2017 (HLSR).
He’s like George Strait, he just pretty much stood there and sang. I liked that... Brooks & Dunn put on a little show, and Garth Brooks you thought you were at a rock concert...
When you consider Nuero-degenrerative diseases; making it into your 60s is a blessing without having to quit.
Think of muscular dystrophy where you are most likely dead by your thirties.
I am a bit mystified as to why this is being posted considering the date of this article is from September 28, 2021.
I’m not very observant I did not even notice the date.
