Johnny Lin, a former Apple engineer and co-founder of the software company Lockdown Privacy says Apple's "Ask App Not To Track" button is a "dud" that gives users "a false sense of privacy," according to a Washington Post report.
Even if users request apps not to collect their activity across other companies' apps and websites, popular iPhone apps like Subway Surfers still collect personal data, a new study by Lockdown Privacy determined.
"We found that App Tracking Transparency made no difference...

Sounds like a “Please Track Me” Button...
Probably.
Do you think the big tech companies are not interested in tracking you? Apple lies.
I could not explain how they do it, but I agree with that engineer. I always check do not follow, yet I always receive several unwanted and unsolicited ads related to my searches.
Some will say ‘use Ad-Be-Gone type apps, but that means some of my other websites won’t communicate very well. I would need to turn the Ad-Be-Gone app ON for certain sites, then OFF again, for other sites. That’s too tedious for me.
I have a low level of pop up protection anyway.
I’m hesitant to accept this as this could be an engineer that left Apple on bad terms and feels the need to spite his former employer.
It could be someone wanting to promote android at Apples expense.
There’s too much ambiguity to take this at face value. I don’t buy it.
No surprise.
“I don’t buy it.”
I’ll see you, and raise you an “I don’t buy Apple.”
I avoid apps to the greatest possible extent.
I use the Brave browser with site-selectable security features.
I don’t fret about much else.
80/20 Rule: get the 80% & be done.
its like the popups where both the yes or no button are programmed to select the same desired response by the weasel app creator
I expect sword maker to jump in here

a couple of years ago Tucker Carlson sent staffers out with Android phones that had the Wifi turned off, went to places that were supposedly secure, etc. Basically all set up so they couldn’t be tracked. Then when they got back they hooked the phones up to a packet sniffer, returned them to normal and every place they had been to was sent back to Google servers.
Your trusting apple?
But I'll bet you use an Android phone. A phone with an OS developed on a platform run by Google. A company with an abysmal track record for privacy.
If you want privacy get a dog.
Cell phones are for tracking—on, off, whatever....no matter what they claim....
Back before phones became cordless, I could leave home without my phone for several weeks at a time. Now it feels like I’m detached and naked if my phone isn’t with me every minute.
My phone stays on the kitchen counter. Its a 5G answering machine.

Don’t know why some people here think that a company run by a bunch of Leftists is not going to apply that ideology non-stop against us.
Per the article, it appears it is more than the former engineer saying it. The engineer is saying the ‘how’, but the study is saying the ‘what’.

If you have an iphone or any other such phone you are being tracked, analyzed and, of course, lied to that you’re not being tracked or analyzed. It’s just a fact of modern technology ... it comes with the product.
Google. A company with an abysmal track record for privacy.

A company that is revenue dependent on tracking.
