Nebraska dropped a 23-20 heartbreaker in overtime at Michigan State on Saturday, further warming the seat on which head coach Scott Frost resides. The Cornhuskers dropped to 2-3 this year with the loss and are now a paltry 14-23 under Frost since he took the job prior to the 2108 season.

If I wanted my coach humiliated…..and maybe fired within days…..I might punt to the wrong side of the field while we were leading by a touchdown and three minutes left in the game. Yep. I’m not totally cynical but I would ignore the called play and punt to the opposite side of the field where we had no special teams coverage so the opponent could run the ball back for a TD to tie the game. Just sayin.’ A strong second half gave glimpses of glory long ago…but Scott Frost turned purple with the horrific punt. . Seven penalties on the offense in the first half. It was the worst error-plagued game I’ve ever seen. At least since Texas Tech walloped them 70-10 years ago. That was the worst in Nebraska’s 114 year history at the time. As a devoted fan, and believer in Scott Frost, I hardly know what to think. But I think I hear a bell tolling…as it has for every NU coach since Tom Osborne left the field.

So, a Frost roast? Roasted Frost?
FSU and Nebraska are both in the same boat. A coach isn’t going to fix it. They are better off sticking with the coaches they have for now.
On the other side of the coin, what a job Sam Pittman is doing at Arkansas, a guy who finally got his first coaching gig. But what a perfect fit he is there.
Nebraska made a big mistake leaving the Pac 12 for The Big Ten.
And especially now that Texas and OU are leaving for the SEC, it’s really looking like a bad move now.
Pac 12 should be Big 12.
So ... 87 years from now Nebraska is still playing football?
One doesn’t post that kind of record and last long in Lincoln. Cornhusker Football is a religion!
So who do you think Nebraska is going to get? They are a small fish in the big pond of The Big Ten. They used to be the big fish in the small pond of the Big 8/12. But at least they had a pipeline to Texas there.
Looks like Michigan state is saying that it was a designed play.
Delorian with flux capacitor…
Could be worse, Nebraska could be USC.
They lost for the first time at home to Oregon State since 1960.
It’s really a distant memory now!
I always wonder what would have happened if they stayed. I hated them going to the Big Ten. But the blood between Texas and the Huskers was well beyond simple rivalry. Suddenly Texas brought the most important element into the game. It was money and power. And it wasn’t pretty. Osborne wasn’t happy.
I don’t think we’re masters of our own fate anymore.
It was so great to see Oklahoma and Nebraska together again.
This has nothing to do with a player or players wanting to get their coach fired. Nebraska has played foolish, undisciplined football under Frost. They gave the game away to OU last week with dumb mistake after dumb mistake.
Frost also made a bad choice at QB and sticking with that choice. Martinez is beyond awful.
Then there’s the fact Frosts recruiting has been very poor.
I wish they had stayed it wasn’t the same without them.
I remember that Frank Solich was fired because 9 win seasons weren’t good enough.
Frost took UCF to a national ranking, and if he doesn’t do that with Nebraska, it’s not because of him.
The Nebraska brand no longer attracts the kids who want to go to the UCF’s of the world. It’s not warm enough in Lincoln for them. Or maybe it’s the facilities.
It’s not Scott Frost.
That’s for sure.
Recruiting out of state has always been tough but every little boy born in Nebraska grew up hoping to be a Cornhusker. It was good enough for a very long time.
The pandemic didn’t help. The freezing temps don’t help.
Ii don’t think anyone would be better than Frost. He has to take his own advice. The media has been after him since his first season.
Yep. It used to be the Big Name programs attracted talent because generally they were the teams that were on TV every week.
But now, every game is televised, so there’s nothing special about the allure of the Nebraska program, other than in the minds of people who were there during the dominant days.
And yes the geographic location, probably hurts most of all, compared to other parts of the country.
Maybe when NU fires Frost he can get his old job back after South Florida hires Malzahn and voila, Frost will be back in the B12!!!!
Your first two sentences are spot on. I was musing for want of a reasonable explanation.
It all had to do with no discipline. That’s Scott’s job.
