i think a few things make this special - one, she was part of the van community and her disappearance sparked that beneath the surface fear it could happen to them, too. Second, she social media’d her travels. Third, the boyfriend’s showing up home and the parents not finding out until 10 days later. Fourth, the boyfriend’s shadiness. Fifth the parent’s shadiness. Sixth, the girl that worked in the store that the couple had a fight outside of, was found brutally murdered. Seventh, an hour long bodycam’d traffic stop. Eighth, the shady boyfriend drawing more attention to himself, disappearing while the search for Gabby’s body was closing in, as if he wanted the last word, or felt he was more important, pay attention to him. Beyond Natalie Holloway wierd.
I watched it about a week ago and stopped halfway through.
Watched the rest of it last night and found it quite odd that the police went out of their way to rent Brian a motel room (at police expense) for the night. As for Gabby, she was handed the keys to the van and told she could get a shower for about $4 or $5 at some truck stop place and she was sent on her way. On the way to the motel, the cop talked to Brian like they were best buddies, recommending national parks to visit and commiserating on how his wife had to be put on meds and then she was a "whole lot better" after that.
Ninth, it took the border, Afghan, financial, Taiwan, crises off the news.
Tenth, Mission accomplished
I just had another thought about this - while it is a distraction, it’s also a warning about people traveling around, especially if they’re not leaving a really huge paper trail. There have been a lot of camping/RV type slayings and strange events lately. I know from living in CO for a long time that state and fed park management tends not to like taxpayers and voters who just want to, you know, camp and hike, especially if you’re good at the outdoors and, like I said, not easily tracked. Several times while (trying to have a good time) in the outdoors here in CO, I have stumbled upon things like encampments (in spots where no camping allowed) and one time a LARGE group of men gathered in a spot off the road, like they were waiting to be picked up. Also we are told to watch out for things like illegal traps and pot plantations. So, “Don’t even think about traveling, especially camping!” seems to be the message as well.
Hmmm, interesting point. You might be on to something there.
Ok, now it is getting silly.
It is a mystery and people like mysteries.
