Tell Me About Your Ride

Yesterday, I inadvertantly hijacked a Bible Thread in the Religion Forum to talk about my Motorcycle. Since I started riding in late Autumn of 1972, next year will mark my 50th Anniversary on two wheels. At the time, women were not as avid bikers as they are today. My Present Bike is pictured above, and is a 93FXR in "Sapphire Blue". I bought it at Hampton Roads Harley Davidson on the way home from attending Rolling Thunder. I traded in my Sportster and did the 700 mile ride home on that beautiful bike. From the VIN, we have ascertained that she was born in the York, PA Plant sometime in June 1992, so next year, "Blue" will be thirty. Blue and I have done 8 Rolling Thunder Rallies together, one Daytona, Blue Ridge Parkway, The Colonial Triangle, Laconia and the Kangamangus Highway, Alligator Alley and Florida's Gulf Coast, The Florida Keys, I95 the whole way, and the Appalachians in West Virginia (Monongahela State Forest and Blackwater Falls). We have gone through Hurricanes, Tornadoes, and Flash Floods together. I'm posting this thread so we can share our stories without having to hijack a Bible Thread LOL!

Let Me hear From You.

My Voice teacher had a boyfriend who parked a Basket-Case Honda 750-Four in her backyard. Rather than see it rust away, I hauled it to my house and sprayed Mystery Oil into all four cylandars. Eventually, they became unfrozen. Got a Salvage Title and a new battery, and it started right up. I sold it which gave me the money I needed to get my next bike, a Honda CX650.

Actually, BMW makes perhaps the best ergonomic bikes I have ever rode outside of a 2001 Honda CR-250.

2001 Honda CR-250. The perfect off-road racing bike.

No story of my own just a a recent observation.

A couple of days ago I saw a fella on his motorcycle and it was striking how happy he looked.

That’s it— he just looked so completely happy.

Don’t see that much nowadays.

My next Bike was a Honda CX650 Custom that had a transversal V-Twin, and a water jacket. It was top-heavy and I kept falling over at stop lights because neither of my feet could reach the ground. It was a beautiful bike, but not a good match for me. We sold it, a shotgun, and a Toyota junk box to get our first Harley, a Special Anniversay Edition XLH Sporty. Stay Tuned...

That's why I ride.

Thanks...this one fits my bike perfectly. It is much nicer-looking than the HD Stock Windshield.

My first bike was a 1974 Honda CB360, green with white stripes on the tank.

I rode that bike all over southern California, Sand Diego, Tijuana, Big Bear Lake, Palm Springs, Las Vegas and environs.

When I was transferred from 29 Palms Marine Corps Base back east to MCB Albany GA for more schooling, I had the Honda Dealer crate the bike up for shipping back east.

I contacted a shipping company in Palm Springs to pick it up after I left and that was the last I saw of my bike.

It was never picked up. The agent died of a heart attack, the shipping company closed the office for lack of business and I never got a refund.

About 9 months later I called the Honda dealer in Yucca Valley and inquired if the bike was still there, and he said yes, it was crated and siting in the back of the lot. I was in Denver at the time and told him I would try and get someway to have it picked up but never could.

So I suppose he finally claimed it as abandoned on a mechanic’s lien and that was that.............

It flies! Amazing handling. It was built for closed circuit motocross racing but I did a few mods to race it in 50-100 mile mountain enduro races. It was nothing short of perfection.

Zippy little thing those Z4s! I like BMW cars, too, but they just fall apart after 30,000 miles too fast. We’ve had a few.

Here it is...My First Harley. I changed the cams and put a bigger tank on it, which I painted myself with a Native American Design. Even though I am MicMac, it was a Dream Catcher (Ojibwa) but I didn't mind mixing and matching designs. Anyway, this is the bike I traded up to Blue. I was later informed that the Sportster with the Dreamcatcher tank was still being ridden around somewhere in Virginia.

I have never ridden a Yamaha, but my piano was made by the same company.

Nice Instrument.
