According to data compiled by the Centers For Disease Control, approximately one in every 5,000 vaccinated Americans has tested positive for the coronavirus. That number is probably much lower in places with significantly fewer cases — like the Northeast, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco areas, where it is probably fewer than one in 10,000.
This is the first detailed data about so-called “breakthrough” infections — positive tests from people fully vaccinated. The data suggests that politicians and public health officials are wildly overreacting to the delta variant’s effect on the already vaccinated.
Here’s one way to think about a one-in-10,000 daily chance: It would take more than three months for the combined risk to reach just 1 percent.
“There’s been a lot of miscommunication about what the risks really are to vaccinated people, and how vaccinated people should be thinking about their lives,” as Dr. Ashish Jha of Brown University told my colleague Tara Parker-Pope.
Of course, this study will be largely ignored by politicians. They will go on pretending that vaccinated people can contract COVID-19 almost as easily as the unvaccinated.
Equally frustrating has been the widely held belief that vaccinated people who test positive can easily spread the virus, suggesting that the “viral load” in their nasal passages and throats makes them walking pandemic superspreaders.
Not hardly.
These numbers help show why the talking point about viral loads was problematic. It was one of those statements that managed to be both true and misleading. Even when the size of the viral loads are similar, the virus behaves differently in the noses and throats of the vaccinated and the unvaccinated.

HERE’s THE DIFFERENCE:
In an unvaccinated person, a viral load is akin to an enemy army facing little resistance. In a vaccinated person, the human immune system launches a powerful response and tends to prevail quickly — often before the host body gets sick or infects others. That the viral loads were initially similar in size can end up being irrelevant.
Yeah, the 1 in 10,000 is about what you’d see for typical rhinovirus infections— which is to say, breakthroughs are about as common as the common cold.. and usually about as mild.
I’m vaccinated, but I wouldn’t want to risk it - you can always be the unlucky one.
And then while the entire army is distracted by the enemy, a variant enemy sneaks in dressed in a friendly army uniform, takes over the army and attacks it’s own people.
Do you plan to spend the rest of your life wearing a mask and socially isolated?
Lost all credibility in the first sentence. The CDC has so dramatically altered how they count vaccinated or unvaccinated that using their numbers is like trusting Pravda or Debka for your news.
I just received a message from a church friend in my son’s scouting troop.
His middle-aged sister had the virus, and beat it but suffered pneumonia.
So, she was afraid and got the shot, Shortly after she developed a blood clot in her lung. It went to her heart. She got sick. She just died. I don’t know if she is a COVID case or not. I do know the shot did her no good. I also know we cannot believe ANY statistics we hear, because 70% can become 2% on closer examination, and basic definitions get changed on the fly to serve the agenda.
You describe what I have been thinking. Those with healthy immune systems will flush the virus out of their system quickly. Some might not know they were infected. It is those with compromised immune systems that need to take extra caution. They should be in touch with medical people for advise on how they can protect themselves even though they are fully vaccinated.
And this article illustrates why there is NO justification for mask mandates or other restrictions… particularly for fully vaccinated individuals. And IMHO there should be no further restrictions or mandates for ANYONE. If you want to get vaccinated or wear a mask, feel free to do so. If you don’t, don’t!
Bullspit.
I know more people who are Covid positive today than I ever have and AlL of them, including some who have died, have all be fully vaccinated.
Israel is the 7th most vaccinated country on earth per capita and it has more cases today than anytime before.
This breakthrough infections are rare are abject lies.
They mostly used Pfizer for the first two jabs and are now doing Moderna boosters.
Does anybody not in the pay of Big Pharma still believe anything the CDC puts out? I sure don’t, and neither does my doctor.
“And then while the entire army is distracted by the enemy, a variant enemy sneaks in dressed in a friendly army uniform, takes over the army and attacks it’s own people.”
Brilliant! I bet that pro vaxer didn’t see that coming.
Bullspit.
The only statistic holding up on vaccines is Lowe likelihood of death… thats. It.
Everyone I know currently who has a positive case, including many who have been in thr hospital and some who have died are all fully vaccinated
My mother liklely would be another icu if not death case of being fully vaccinated. She got a positive test and told go home because she was vaccinated even though she was 67 and has asthma. She declined rapidly. He doctor didn’t even know what monoclonal antibodies were! Fortunately I did, made sure once I was aware what was going on she got a prescription and treatment. And turned around almost instantly.
Oh and you know what the risk reduction is on par with simply getting treated with monoclonal antibodies if you get a positive test.
These flagrant lies about vaccine protection need to end.
You are about 2/3 less likely to die if vaccinated, that’s it. That’s all you are dealing with.
Hey and I’ll tell you something else about monoclonal antibodies, studies have shown if you are treated with them as a preventative you don’t get sick at all. Small study done among 400 people who were living with a positive person sowed a 100% success rate of preventing infection. Not 1 single person given them as a preventative got sick at all.
This narrative of vaccine uber alles has to end, it’s a flat out lie.
I have a problem with this.
“According to data compiled by the Centers For Disease Control, approximately one in every 5,000 vaccinated Americans has tested positive for the coronavirus. That number is probably much lower in places with significantly fewer cases — like the Northeast, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco areas, where it is probably fewer than one in 10,000.”
The problem is . . . it’s not 2020. People vaccinated think they are bulletproof. They aren’t going to do drive thru testing like last year. They will not be tested unless they have symptoms bad enough to force them to see a doc, who might then order a test.
So “1 in every 5000” vaxed Americans has tested positive doesn’t really say very much. Quite a few of them who did not get tested are infected.
The Mayo Clinic recently released a fairly powerful report that used the entire population of Minnesota for its samples. They declared Pfizer is down to 42% effectiveness against infection, and they made an effort to isolate numbers to delta, but could not rule out weakening vaccine performance with duration/time being as important as delta.
Frankly any studies or data that use data going back to January are useless. The virus we face now wasn’t present in January.
Is Israel different than us biologically?
I know a couple of young people in their 20s and 30s in my rural and small town area, who became infected early last month. They weren’t tested, because they didn’t go for medical treatment. Mildly ill people are asked officially by management to self-isolate but are not tested. Some of them continue to work. The screening thermometers are skewed low (for real). [Essential work must go on in crowded, high volume places. Customers need to eat.]
The delta variant was already prevalent here (very low vaccination rate). Those young people knew other young people (20s through 40s)—vaccinated and unvaccinated—who were infected.
The vaccinated ones had slight headaches, sore throats, runny noses, coughs and mild fatigue in the middle of the summer. A couple of the unvaccinated ones died. One of the deceased was in his 20s and another in his 40s. Other unvaccinated ones—some hospitalized, some not—had more severe, longer lasting symptoms than the vaccinated ones, but some of them are fine now.
One overnight shift lost half of its employees, and overnight sanitizing of all surfaces commenced. Other employees were ordered to work on the overnight stocker shift pending efforts to get new hires. No takers for weeks in an area with a large portion of people reluctant to get vaccinated, even with higher pay offered. Not many customers are wearing masks—a job requirement for employees.
This is only a small peek under the surface for what it’s worth. Testing is avoided except for those hospitalized. And according to several coroners in nearby counties, some families have asked that their COVID-19 deceased be recorded as having expired for other reasons (some weird stigma thing).
I don’t know what the winter will bring, but worrying doesn’t make sense. Take whatever fast, easy measures, and drive on.
We had many vaccinations in my National Guard unit long ago and didn’t even know what some of them were. One young soldier died from a tropical disease in another unit that I’d just transferred to. We cared, but we drove on. We did what we could and accepted what we couldn’t do anything about without allowing ourselves to be distracted from our duties.

There are other differences. The human immune system launches a 'powerful response and tends to prevail quickly' against the body's own vital organs - that's why there's automimmune issues like heart inflammation. The spike proteins are expressed on the body's own cells and now the immune system attacks them WHERE THEY ARE FOUND.
When breakthrough infections occur, the person is less symptomatic and the illness advances further, before the person realizes they are sick and seek treatment. So a breakthrough case is farther along and thus treatment appears to work less well because treatment response is better the earlier it begins.
Wiring the body to focus on producing specific antibodies draws them from other wise spectrum tasks - the immune response narrows and the body reacts less well to other threats because it's busy cranking out antigens encoded in the 'vaccines'
Also, breakthrough cases are not being reported separately from ADE.
