Does anyone know which Five Republicans voted with Democrats to pass the amendment in the Defense budget requiring women 18 years to 25 years to register for Selective Service?

God bless you dear friend! You are then the age of my dear mother. You’ve seen plenty.

They should just abolish the whole friggen department. We haven’t needed a draft since the Vietnam war and it was arguable we didn’t need it then.

The Selective Service System employs over a hundred civilians, probably another two hundred contractors, and keeps a heap of Guard and reserve personnel busy and working to retirement. It has an annual budget of about 29 million dollars. Over a billion dollars spent, dozens to hundreds of people have spent their entire working careers in this department getting paid relatively well compared to private industry counterparts and retiring with government pensions without their lives making a single bit of difference in the security or future of the nation. All these people ever did was make loans difficult for men who are bad with paperwork or wanted to be rebellious when they were teenagers... and I hardly see that as a public benefit.

If we can't look at the Selective Service System and say that this is a government program that can be shut down, what hope do we have to rein in the size of government now that we're "done" with two decades of war overseas?

So we’d solely rely on nuclear weapons?

Should we rely on B17 bombers and M1 Garand rifles?

That is why your comparison doesn't make sense. If we were to fight a war today like WW II would we use the same weapons we used then? Would we drop atomic bombs on cities like we did then?

If we did today to some other country what we did to Japan in WW II I think the war would end pretty quickly.

Your comparison isn't sensible. Technology changes how wars would be fought, just like WW II did not rely on the same type of people, strategies and weapons that were used in the first world war.

Separate from all of the rest of the stuff in the legislation, this is a long overdue change. Everyone should be required to register and a potential draft should include men and women.

she was not drafted

none of the guys were drafted either, btw

she volunteered

and that was 2003 before the studies came out proving women in infantry/combat units put those units at greater risk

the army isn’t stupid, they don’t want their soldiers wiped out because of weak links in the units

further women will be used to free up males to be cannon fodder, because society views men as disposable

so don’t sit there and claim its so awful when you don’t give two craps about the men

if any woman gets drafted they will not be front line soldiers because the army knows what negative impacts women in units have on performance and survivability and mission success

they will serve in logistics and support roles and many wont ever leave the usa to do the jobs, most won’t even be physically fit enough to pass physical standards for being in combat combat

The military is already pushing women into combat roles. Hell, I think the Army has quotas for infantry companies, right? The Marine Corps, which is only 8-9% female, tweeted a picture of female marines captioned “this is what the Marine Corps looks like BOOMER.”

Your contention that the military knows women are detrimental to combat units falls flat when the military is actively working to increase the number of women in combat units.

Don’t be so sure. The senior leadership of the US military are faithful adherents of the official state religion of Wokeism (example: Milley).

these are volunteers not draftees

volunteers tend to be more driven and more in shape and mnetally want to be there

further the marines go through more rigorous training than regular army units

that makes a huge difference with women

most women will not be in shape to handle combat, most are not mentally able to handle it regardless of fitness

also a smaller percentage of men that would be drafted would also not be fit/mentally able to handle it either but they most likely will not be given the luxury of noncombat roles

most would put units in jeopardy

they would not be placed there, the army does not want their squads and units wiped out due to weak people not pulling their weight

No, but Korea would be a likely flashpoint for a hot war between the US and China.

The Chinese have to see us as weak and a shadow of a once mighty nation. And honestly, given what has gone on lately, who could blame them?

And for clarification, women in combat zones is absurd, but here we are.

I understand. She volunteered, but was placed in danger. I attended a conference and she was a guest. Her story indicated she was very much placed into a dangerous situation. What makes you think same would not be done to draftees? Slippery slope. I am not a supporter of draft registration for anyone, unless in time of war. The volunteer services have kept us from having to draft…and why would we need to? Dems love this as a wedge issue and when they along with their uniparty GOPe friends across the aisle want to engage in wars and conflicts around the world, they send our sons and daughters. Now they can abuse our daughters as they have abused our sons.
Top it off with coming home dead, injured or alive and suffering complete and total disrespect for their service - condoned by those same Dems & given lip service by GOPe.
You don’t know me, my family or their sacrifice. So cut it with the personal insults.

***And I worked with one of the most powerful politicians on the planet to fix this ridiculous loophole.

Bureaucracies have a life of their own.

If only we could have assigned them the task of disproving climate change... then at least they woulda been worth sumthin.

I would suggest that everyone owes the country two years of service between high school and college. The military, National Health Service, Peace Corps all could use support. But women as trigger pullers, not a good idea.

Ground combat conditions often result in sterility for the women. It is a nation ending, event even if we win it. How about sending the unhealthy, short and low IQers in first.
