to be honest, no, sedation on a patient with unknown possible previsous medication ingestion, is not better than manhandling.
Best plan? take care of these people inpatient. Bring back long term mental hosptials.
Teach emergency providers and LEOs how to manage out of control patients. Hell hospitals do it with 100 pound aides.

Side rails on a hospital bed is also considered "excessive restraint". My Mom is in a Memory Care facility, and they (I think State regs) don't allow side rails. Unbelievable, huh?
My sister had a massive brain injury and which brought on dementia. Terrible violent behavior with strength that took three people to hold her down. It was horrible and devastating to the staff and Dr’s treating her...not to mention family. People were getting hurt yet they would not sedate nor restrain her until she went after someone. .....
I disliked politicians before but it is they who instituted these restrictions on patients who do not need to suffer such misery and torment...nor those who care for them!!!!!
