You do realize that 80% plus of Federal employees are Democrats? Washington DC is almost entirely Democrat in every position of power. Our Justice department is corrupt, our intelligence agencies are corrupt, our state department is corrupt, and our law enforcement agencies headquartered in Washington DC are corrupt.
They are all filled with big city liberals, and these particular big city liberals all went to Ivy league schools located in the Northeast, and indoctrinated with all the lies which serve the purpose of keeping the corruption cartel in power.
The "media" is just an arm of this corruption cartel. (Also located in the Northeast, mostly.)
that's what got Trump elected in 2016 and will hopefully elect more Republicans in 2022 & 2024.
The Washington DC corruption cartel has guaranteed that all future elections will be under their control, kinda like the "Free State" / "Slave State" issue was an effort to control elections.
They simply modify their past techniques. Nowadays they say it is "racist" to require voter ID or prohibiting fake mail in ballots, or any other effort to guarantee legitimate elections.
This is not so far off from what they used to do in the 1850s.

I think it goes way beyond big Pharma. I think numerous industries have developed back doors into government and effectively set government policy based on what is most profitable for the corporations that have influence.
Eisenhower warned of the "Military Industrial Complex", but if you read that speech and other things he wrote, it becomes clear that he recognized the problem was far greater than just collusion between the Military and Industry.
Even Abraham Lincoln recognized the threat from collusion between Industry and government.

That isn't correct. There are a lot of things in the world that were not Lincoln's fault.
Lincoln is responsible for changing the relationship between the states and the national government and also for making corruption in Washington DC the normal way of doing business.
He is also responsible for the after effects of the civil war which he deliberately started.
They must have been like modern Republicans because they were absolutely ineffective at getting anything done that their people wanted.
For some reason, only the big city Liberals (Republicans) got what they wanted while the small government rural representatives could never seem to get anything they wanted.
