Mississippi police issued an arrest warrant Tuesday for an Ohio man who they say confronted NBC News' Shaquille Brewster on live television.
The man, Benjamin Eugene Dagley, of Wooster, Ohio, will be charged with two counts of simple assault, one count of disturbing the peace and one count of violating an emergency curfew, Gulfport police said in a statement.
He could also be in violation of his probation in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, if he traveled without authorization, police said.
Brewster was doing a live MSNBC shot from Gulfport, reporting on Tropical Storm Ida in coastal Mississippi, when a man pulled up in a white pickup truck and sprinted toward him.
The man got in Brewster's face before Brewster calmly ended the report. The man could be heard shouting at Brewster to "report accurately."

Textbook legal assault.
At Common Law, an intentional act by one person that creates an apprehension in another of an imminent harmful or offensive contact. An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm.

He was exercising his right to free speech. The man-made no threats at all. If someone is a wimp and perceives someone talking strongly to them about their ‘fake news’ reporting is assault then we have no First Amendment left in this country.
It was a WHITE GUY doing it to a black man. That was the ‘thought crime’ here as there was no actual crime in that video.
Yankee’s just mad because he’s got salt in his wheel wells and needs a good car wash. Seriously though, there was zero call for that and had the reporter chose to forcefully defend himself he already had a camera going with witnesses. I give him credit for staying cool and professional where I may have not.
Wouldn’t the reporter also be violating the curfew?

If it was a BLM enthusiast disrupting a new shot, nothing would happen. That said, the guy is nuts.
Lots of scary folk out there. Reporter didn’t know what was coming down. There have been reporters shot to death on live tv...so that might have crossed his mind.
Age old problem. Now we get to watch people’s bad behaviour...live...and in color. Yeah! Cool!
Video ended when the man lunged at reporter. That was the assault. Reporter would have no way to know if he was armed or was going to get attacked. Assault without battery (contact) is rarely prosecuted. But no idea what else inspired or what other laws he broke (unsafe parking).
It was unhinged behavior that might earn him a slap on the wrist and maybe a psych eval. Probably needs anger management.
