All I know is that for a month I watched my in laws both die from corona, they had some other issues that were controlled and they lived a very active and strong life. they didn’t die from other things they died because of corona virus. so the wording that people like to say- they died with the virus not from the virus is mindboggling to me! when you have someone you love die from the virus you understand, until then you say stupid things!

Yes, indeed. It was actually uncommon for children and adults to be overweight, and very, very rare for a person to be obese when I was growing up in the 70’s. But now I would guesstimate at least 50% are overweight or obese. Men, women and children.
Yes, I believe you are right give or take a year. Median life expectancy for Americans is 78. Median age of death with covid is also 78.
I am not one of those who says “it’s just the flu”, it’s a serious virus, but the likelihood of it causing death in and of itself is lower than the numbers tell. People are dying because of comorbidities, weakened immune system that comes with aging in general (some better than others), obesity, diabetes, and other conditions that are exacerbated by the presence of the infection, the inflammation and the energy required by the body to fight the virus. Heart has to pump harder, lungs can’t deliver oxygen to vital organs, etc. For the frail, something is likely to break.
On the other hand, I have seen (online) x-rays of lung scarring from covid infection. It can be very serious for many. Perplexingly, it also seems that for a lot more people they never develop any symptoms at all. Never even knew they had it. Not sure why. It’s a very strange virus - from this layman’s perspective.

My mother was a healthy active person in her 80s who went to the YMCA every night and walked and exercised with my dad. She has been an invalid for months who has told us repeatedly that she just wishes that she could die. This started a week after she got her first Pfizer jab. Every time the phone rings I wonder if we are going to be told that she has passed away.
