My rule is....we pack up and leave as soon as our area is in the cone.

We have a system down and a place to go to.

Why chance it?

They said all 8 transmission lines are down, not sure if all are as damaged as that one. Time will tell.

If Wikipedia is to be believed, LaPlace is a mountainous 10 feet above sea level.

It seems the Hurricane can dunk

"The rest of NOLA is below sea level, smart ass. I wasn’t specifically referring to LaPlace, but to NOLA as a whole"

Tell me, was New Orleans below sea level when it was founded? That it is below sea level today is a testament to the huge sacrifice it has been forced to make for the good of the rest of the nation. I could explain but judgemental jerks like you wouldn't care or understand. They are people just like you and me and this is their home. You have a home. I'm sure it has its faults. If it was on fire, I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate someone saying you shouldn't be living there as you are trying to escape.

These are Trump voters. Not below sea level. How come people in Tennessee don’t have to take this crap when they have flash floods? What an ignorant oaf you are.

Despite the well documented history of prior destructive killer hurricanes, the accuracy of weather prediction and tracking and efforts to build levees and raise buildings, people often believe that somehow, someway these catastophres will not affect them personally. Its the same psychological defense that allows a young soldier to function in deadly combat. This type of thinking is probably hard wired into most humans to allow them to function in extremely dangerous situations and ultimately survive. Don’t be too judgmental when people ignore warnings and behave in this manner.

I think this is the same area that flooded several years ago when the lake water pushed in.

Laplace isn’t in New Orleans at all. It’s 25 miles west. And all the older neighborhoods in New Orleans are above sea level. You really need to quit running your mouth about this.

That's worth repeating. One of the people included in the tweets shown in twitchy evacuated from the coast to a hotel in LaPlace, and now the hotel is flooding.

There is a lot of damage from this storm, and the situation is very serious for people trying to avoid serious flooding in the dark with a hurricane in progress. Prayers up for them all, and the rescue teams that are no doubt trying to save them right now.

Watching a local New Orleans area station, Fox8 livestream. I wish the weather folks would sit back and let the folks out on the street talk and show pictures.

What crawled up your behind and died?
These people had exactly 16 years to prepare and learn from the tragic lessons of the past. I don’t care if they are Trump supporters or in a red area.
If and disaster strikes here in Northern WI, I AM PREPARED. I’m not relying on FEMA or even state and local authorities in the crucial 24-48 hours after a disaster.
So piss off!!

When I was there after Katrina, it appeared to me that every housing development was in a hole with a dyke around it to keep out the water. Or keep it on once it flooded. People are great there, foods awesome, but you gotta know that even a small storm surge is going to cause huge damage.

A great book that deals with the history and geography of New Orleans from it’s founding to the present day is “Time and Place in New Orleans”, by Richard Campanella. It details how slowly over time, the city has suffered from the construction of the levees along the Mississippi River.
