I hated his liberal views, but his portraying Lou Grant on MTM and Lou Grant was great acting.

Sadly Ed was Jewish. Born in Kansas City, Kansas. He still has family there.
Ed is somebody that gives Jews a bad name. I can say that since I’m Jewish.

A Marxist.
Don’t forget to take out the playbook and babble about McCarthyism...
“As Screen Actors Guild president, the liberal Asner was caught up in a political controversy in 1982 when he spoke out against U.S. involvement with repressive governments in Latin America. “Lou Grant” was canceled during the furor that followed and he did not run for a third SAG term in 1985./Asner discussed his politicization in a 2002 interview, noting he had begun his career during the McCarthy era and for years had been afraid to speak out for fear of being blacklisted.”

Asner was a horrid, dreadful man and hated America. Apparently bigbob took exception to me saying I’m glad he’s dead, but we don’t want Asner and people like him actively working against us, and against God.

when it happens to be so-called “political prisoners” in the United States, Asner is far from silent. Despite eyewitnesses, several of whom were African-American, witnessing former Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamal murdering a police officer, Asner, along with other Left Coast celebrities, has waged a fervent campaign to get the Marx-quoting [Mumia] released from prison.Ping, and good riddance.
RIP, Officer Daniel Faulkner, US Army veteran, whose family has gone through hell, thanks to Asner and the rest of those conscience-free leftists, and the endless appeals and parole hearings.

Asner sought to use the Guild to oppose then-President Ronald Reagan’s policies against the totalitarian Sandinistas in Nicaragua, who ruled the country with an iron fist, shutting down opposition newspapers, jailing critics, and beating up those who tried to vote. Image a nation allowing that. America would never allow that. /s

Asked in 2003 about Castro’s denial of free elections for 40 years, Asner re-directed the question to his hated America, claiming there are no free elections in America. There aren't now, thanks to Hollyweird and the rest of the media. Rot in hell.

If you don’t like libs why act like they do when a conservative dies?Conservatives who believe they are "above all that" are why conservatives lose, and lose, and lose. Enjoy life under the chicoms, bigbob.

Well said. Asner held many beliefs that were harmful to the country. But he was not an evil man. He was just a very misguided one. One of the things I like least about liberals is how the spit on every conservative who passes away. We really should be better than that. RIP, Mr Asner And thanks for your service. (Asner was an Army veteran.)Your moral scolding about what we should be "above" is pure sentimentality based on your emotional pleasure of Assner as an actor. In real life he was a indeed an evil man, judging by his actions and words.
See post 24 and post 229, which describe traitor Asner inciting a decades-long torture against the family of a slain police officer and US Army veteran.
A wealthy, privileged Hollywood actor who was an Army veteran and should have known better took up a relentless campaign against the family, parole board and defending jurors of a working-class Philly Army veteran and cop, Daniel Faulkner, on behalf of the Black Panther who shot him. George Washington would have hanged Assner.

One of my colleagues was very liberal. He started screaming about what a monster Reagan was. He fired the air traffic controllers. He did this. He did that. Ronald Reagan should burn in hell. I was appalled by that. I get that he didn’t like Reagan. Well, okay. But my colleague acted like we were talking about a mass murderer. That wasn’t okay. So, your opinion of Asner is all about you and your experiences, not the things Asner actually did and said? And similar behavior of the left and the right are morally equivalent, even if the objects of their scorn are not? Grow up.

No, it’s more like judging (not really the best word here) people on an evilness scale. People high up on that scale deserve the worst that society can mete out to them.
As I noted earlier, too many liberals reflectively give every conservative a 10 out of 10. That is simply not morally defensible. Should we be dong the same?
So where do I put Asner? He never murdered anyone or abused a child, to my knowledge. But he did hold some very corrosive views. I’d give him maybe a 4 out of 10. For me, that’s not enough to damn him to hell. But as the old saying goes, your mileage may vary.

So where do I put Asner? He never murdered anyone or abused a child, to my knowledge. What do you suppose his views about abortion were? Is late-term abortion a value-free medical procedure, or the murder of a human with a soul? You are aware Assner admired Stalin in spite of his egregious mass murdering, and wanted to make a mass entertainment film product promoting the softer side of Stalin? So, where do you put a murderer-adjacent?
