The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Tried many combinations on the first word.
Finally a wrong guess at the first word with the right letter, perked my eyes up to another word — the 6th word; got a piece of that, doubled back to the 4th word;
then the end of the 2nd word...
eventually it came into focus.
Then PRESTO there it was.
