It may be true that they thought the collapse of Afghanistan was inevitable and wanted it to happen now, rather than in an election year, but those who forever observe that people with power don’t give up power willingly ought to be skeptical about elites who have power driving their countries into the ground. What they want may be driving the country into the ground — mass immigration, inflation, energy shortages, voter fraud, dependency on government — but they aren’t going to willingly throw away the country’s power in the world. Strange at it may seem to some, they don’t want to turn over such power as they have to Klaus Schwab or the PRC.
