Fair warning:
Do NOT update passwords until advised by FR admins that the site is back to normal.
After seeing the raft of posts, I believe that the server was either mirrored or hijacked.
I just now recalled that about an hour or so ago my screen header said 'sign in'. I hit refresh a couple of times and didn't pay any attention to it.
I now believe that those who signed in exposed their accounts.
Not near as bad as walking outside and getting bit by a moose.
no nap needed loser...just tired after 20 yrs of seeing your bs posts...so want to see you back them up in person...but you never will...cuz your a lifes loser who has nothing better to do...how many people have to tell you to get a life before it sinks in...gnite loser...go find a blogger to harrass on line cuz you dont have the balls to meet in person and spew your filth..Offer still stands...i will fly anywhere for the satisfaction of popping you in the mouth...time and place loudmouth...now go cry to mods PU$$Y
Just FYI: the “official response” (John/Jim R.) thread is here:
https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3989769/posts
“The first one I saw was some silliness about the XBOX X.
Then a bizarre anti trans rant.
Then something about intimacy with a rat.”
I was late to the party and missed all the “fun.”
You are probably on to something/
It needed to be said.
So this had to be a DNS server hack.
CCP is trying to locate someone.
CCP is trying to locate someone.
Somehow one of my passwords (I use different passwords for different sites) was compromised and I began getting email saying they had my password (they did because they included it in the message) and I needed to send them money.
I just changed the password on the site they got it from and then deleted every message they sent (never responding). After a month no more messages.
Unless someone gets my banks password I am not too concerned about the various sites I visit.
No response from Jim yet?

Thanks. I’ll try to make a habit of that
“These posts said FoxNews, but the URL was Porn Hub.”
So now I guess they’ve got my password to PornHub! ;#\
[...just kidding...]
“… Meanwhile, we’ve temporarily disabled the login program…”
——————————————————-
I hit the rack just before that post. Exactly what I was hoping for (that they regained control).
I’m guessing that they disabled the logon program early since they never took the site offline, but more details - if they release them - will prove interesting.
Thanks for the link.
I have continued to question why any FR posts that open a thread should be accepted when the main-post link if for any web site for which you cannot determine who owns it, who runs it, who’s in charge. There are a number of sites that threads are constantly started with on FR where the site being posted identifies nothing - zero - about themselves.
Why should FR permit that, or permit links to such sites in any posts in a thread.
I think the practice is asking for trouble.
There are programmatic ways of verifying if a URL for a link is legit or not.
Basically the code checks all links embedded in a POST against a service that verifies if the link is safe, any links fail the check the POST should be rejected.
I’m confident that the tin-hat conspiracies of some FReepers on bloggers sites or as described by you - a wholly unrealistic scenario - had anything to do with what happened.
We’ll know for sure if/when Jim/Rob shares the details.
“There are programmatic ways of verifying if a URL for a link is legit or not.”
A link can be programmatic legit merely because where the link goes is true to where it is registered to go in the DNS registry(ies).
My concern is beyond that basic check.
That basic check does not verify anything about ownership or who is really in charge of/running a site. If I were Jim I would not permit links to sites where it cannot be found, on the site’s own web pages, just who they are. Its buying a pig in a poke, no matter what the contents of their stories say about stuff; they still say nothing about themselves. Would you buy a used car from a masked man on the street?
Tried signing in through Chrome and it wouldn’t go to the sign in page, I’m here through Explorer - didn’t sign out from last time I used Exp.
