Yes, the crime of trespass.

Either by signage or by verbal request, when you are asked to leave a property, you are being trespassed. At that point, the mask is irrelevant other than the required condition to remain on the property.

When you escalate by non-compliance with that request, LEO comes to enforce the trespass. If you do not leave when LEO tells you to, it then becomes a criminal act.

Had the student complied with the requirements to remain on the property - put on a mask, he could not have been trespassed for that. If he had left when asked, no crime committed as almost every jurisdiction requires that the person be allowed to comply with the trespass request. It was when after given notice of trespass and then REFUSAL to comply with the property owners requirements, a crime was committed.

Most states have a formal criminal trespass law. The laws of Tennessee (code 39-14-405) define criminal trespass as ... (a) A person commits criminal trespass if the person enters or remains on property, or any portion of property, without the consent of the owner.

Incorrect but more importantly, irrelevant. What is relevant is that the classrooms are not public use. They are for the faculty and for students and any other authorized person the University grants access.

Public property does not equal public access. The county jail is owned by the government (county i.e. public) but is not open (access) to the public. Same with the court house, the national guard armory, etc. The law allows property owners including the government to restrict access to that property. Even city parks (public property with public access) can be restricted and often are restricted in their use.

And you are confused - I do not support the vax mandate, in fact, I am not going to take the covid-19 clot shot due to a medical issue. So slow your roll on the assumptions please.

And public property (University of Tenn) has the right to and does, restrict access to their property, just like the Jail or court house. One of those restrictions is to wear a mask. Since the student agreed to the code of conduct, he agreed to those restrictions as part of his continuing to be a student. This is really no different that if City Hall required masks for entrance into the building.

Sorry you are incorrect. They can place any restrictions that they want on accessing their property (within the law - i.e. there are legal allowances for LEO, serving papers, etc.). Further, since schools will not accept you as a student UNTIL you agree to be bound by the code of conduct, he has specifically waived any such contractual claim.
