Yesterday, 08/26, on his way home from work, Mr K called me from the parking lot of the grocery store in Conifer, wanting to know if I had any requests. After our conversation, I noticed a WHOLE LOT of sirens coming from the highway. (The house is close to 285, which is a major thoroughfare through the state - it actually goes all the way into Mexico, but I digress.)
Mr K then called me about 20 minutes later and said he might be an hour or more getting home, even though the distance is short, because there was a crash; he said, "I think I know who was in that wreck - he came really close to hitting me! It was a guy in a red pickup truck! He was going 100 miles per hour around Windy Point! He nearly hit me! I'll bet it was him! There are FOUR ambulances!" He got home about 45 minutes later - usually it takes about 10 minutes to get here from the store in Conifer. (Yes, this "windy point" is a real place and it's a REALLY dangerous stretch of road even in the summer! In the winter the wind can blow you right off the road. There are warning signs all over it. Haha, me and a friend raced our motorcycles around that piece of road a time or two and I still get a little queasy when I think of it. Why am I still alive? I wonder sometimes.)
I went to look to see if there was any news on the accident and there was already a report on it. There's video with the article, and it's absolutely horrifying. (OF COURSE the loser in the red truck didn't lose his worthless life! :[ You will see the red truck in the video.)
Drunk illegal alien?
That stretch of road can be very dangerous or the traffic can bottle neck into stop and go for miles.
Red truck driving erratically, driver no doubt under the influence. Is it booze, pot, or possibly both ... the SOB should be brought up on vehicular homicide charges and go to prison for a long time.
Good God! Looks like a trailer went thru the cab of one of the trucks. I’m sorry I looked at that.
I know the area though I live a couple dozen miles away. Windy point at 100 mph? In a truck? Yeah, I am 100% positive that the truck drifted out of it’s lane.
Horrible! I’m over here, just south of you near Pine. I hope your roomie can file as a witness to what he saw. Also... There’s a missing child???!
Yesterday, my wife had a doctor’s appt. in a different city 12.5 miles each way from our home.
We saw 10 cars running red lights each way. Equal # of luxury vehicles probably driven by elite white drivers versus rambling heaps probably not driven by elite whites.
However, we didn’t see a single driver with a mask on while driving. Truly evil.
Actual headline: “US 285 open after deadly head-on collision.”
RIP.
I’ve come to the conclusion that every time I’m on the road about 10% of the other drivers are out to kill me.
That’s a miserable stretch of highway from the RTD park-n-ride around to Pine Junction. The worst part is posted 45 mph but most people don’t slow down, especially in the north bound lanes. We drive that from Fairplay to shop in Conifer.
Ugh, I did a double take when I first saw this. An ex-girlfriend also 55, lives in Colorado, but in Longmont, not Englewood.
Prayers for the woman and child and their family.
Really sad part: local media is reporting that before the crash occurred, people had called law enforcement to report the driver of the red truck.
It would be interesting to know how much time passed before the reports and the crash.
