US President Donald Trump has been heavily criticised for halting funding for the World Health Organization (WHO) amid the global coronavirus pandemic. Trump's move to defund WHO goes against the pandemic preparedness plan his administration drafted in 2017, which advocates for âexpanded international coordination on pandemic preparedness and response" and specifically calls for "continued supportâ for WHO. The move drew swift blowback from the medical community, which said it would undercut global efforts to combat a disease thatâs sickened nearly 2 million people worldwide and still has no proven cure or vaccine. Philanthropist Bill Gates, a major funder of the WHO, said it was "as dangerous as it sounds". The president was doing "whatever it takes to deflect from the fact that his administration mismanaged this crisis", said Democratic representative Eliot Engel. "President Trump must stop his petty, counterproductive political games," said Democratic Representative Nita Lowey, chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee. "The coronavirus cannot just be defeated here in the United States, it has to be defeated in every conceivable location throughout the world."

WHO is not the only path to international cooperation on health issues.
WHO has shown itself to be captive to the PRC, and willing to appoint leadership involved with covering up that to which it is supposed to be responding - not merely with the Wuhan Flu. It also is financially corrupt, spending most of its funds on perks for those lucky enough to be appointed to its leadership positions.
