You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.
From the Arkansas Democrat Gazette
Solve it in
4 minutes is good
3 minutes excellent
2 minutes superior
90 seconds amazing
I think there is a problem with the third letter of the first word and the first letter of the second word.
But maybe I am wrong. It is very early.

THE WORK WILL WAIT WHILE YOU SHOW THE CHILD THE RAINBOW, BUT THE RAINBOW WON’T WAIT WHILE YOU DO THE WORK. —PATRICIA CLIFFOR[D]

I duck ducked the author
Your gut is correct on word one. An alternate word makes more sense.
The second word is okay
Solved three letters words with grammer and vowles.
Then, larger words came into focus
The puzzle is correct as posted. A toughie.
Hmm, so what is the first word? Back to the drawing board.
That gives the last letter of the 5th word.
Figure out a common letter combo which ends words, ending in that letter.
That then gives you the last word in the sentence. Then things open up some. Still had to Goolag the author's name.
Long time to solve.
Look in this space tomorrow.
Googling the author’s name only works if you know it. Googling the solution (without the author’s name) gives it, but other than that single quote the author is completely obscure. Bad form for a cryptogram, imho. Not Nikos fault, he just copies ‘em.
That’s what I did, at the end. /womp womp>
Is there a typo? Common letter in solution with the first two words?
Nope, third letter first word is incorrect, at least according to the quote when I googled it. Makes way more sense when corrected.
Looks like there’s multiple authors and the quotation has differences. So I don’t know what to say.
It looks like the problem with the cryptogram is that they got the first letter of the author's last name wrong.
This is why the third letter of the first word is wrong and doesn't make sense. The author's last name begins with the crypto X, and the third letter of the first word should be E.

The missing commas after the second and third words did NOT make this any easier! LOL.
Chose the two-letter word by its low letter frequency and figured a verb should follow. That started to crack it.
Yes, then it actually makes sense (especially when adding the missing commas)!
I’ll try to be more careful in the future. I took the commas out because I didn’t understand what the sentence was trying to say with them.
All in all this was not a real good Cryptogram.

Just Kidding! This daily post is appreciated, warts and all. :)
