WASHINGTON, Thursday, Aug. 22.

The steamer Yankee arrived last evening. She comes for repairs, and will leave to-morrow. Her officers report eleven steamers and four cutters at Aquia Creek. Everything there is quiet. The report that the rebels had erected batteries on the Maryland side, below Aquia Creek, is untrue.

The Columbia arrived with Government stores to-day, bringing with her a sloop called the Eagle, seized below.

Col. ABRAHAM DURYEE is here from Baltimore. Gen. SCOTT favors his appointment as a Brigadier-General. He has been acting as such for some time, and with great efficiency.

Trustworthy intelligence from Northwestern Virginia states that Gen. ROSECRANS is securely intrenched, and with a sufficient force to remove any cause of apprehension for his safety. The rebels are reported intrenching themselves at a distance of from fifteen to twenty miles, and with a force variously estimated at from nine to twenty thousand men.

The stage coach to Leonardstown, from this city, was intercepted this morning by a small detachment of our troops, by order of Gen. PORTER. A close examination was made of the passengers and baggage, and the result disclosed a quantity of correspondence designed for the rebels in Virginia. Much of it was written in mysterious language, and none had the signatures of the writers attached. Two of the party were arrested, and are now in custody.

The Court-martial took up the case of the New-York Seventy-ninth mutineers this morning, and was proceeding with the trial of Geo. Showell, Geo. Fibble, George Bland, Bernard Daily, Alexander Irving, Patrick Lynch, Patrick McGovern, and John McMahon, when an order came from the War Department for the Court to adjourn to the 20th of next month. It is said that this order was obtained through the influence of Gen. EWEN, of the New-York State militia.
